August 17, 201213 yr Hi I was wondering if anyone knows of any outlets for bread baking ingredients - flours, yeasts, improvers, etc - and / or the equipment required for bread making? I seem to recall seeing an ad in Citylife for a specialist place but that was quite a while ago now. Fed up with store bought stuff and wouldn't mind making my own. Thanks for any help
August 17, 201213 yr I just visited this two places yesterday and today first one is Yok (Nim plaza branch) google map 18.75527,99.008202 and Puen Kraowr in Nong Hoi area. google map 18.800124,98.994364 These two are pretty much the same but I would personally recommen Puen Kraowr as they also carry mutimalt mix, seven grain mix, rye, spelt, oat flour, even whole grain rye! etc.. (consider most Thai prefer white bread and their approach to bread as sweet rather than savory) Puen Kraowr Yok Edited August 17, 201213 yr by ARISTIDE
August 17, 201213 yr Try Yok. Agreed. We get all our ingredients from Yok. Located on the super highway not far from the Arcade Bus Terminal ,same side, south of. One of the more interesting stores in CM for a whole host of products, not only baking.
August 17, 201213 yr Yok on the superhighway is nice because it is also open on Sunday but you get better prices and Bake Mart (phuen Krua) on the CM Lamphun road before 89 plaza. Both places can order your proofers and other things. Or you can buy direct from Champ or King Machines in BKK.
August 17, 201213 yr Author Thanks for all the replies people, very helpful. Tolstoy, what are Champ and King Machines?
August 17, 201213 yr Champ used to have (and still might) a store on the left side of makro parking lot. Haven't been there in over a year, but have bought decent cooking oven and heavy duty mixer directly from them at prices that were way cheaper than Yok...

Out of interest, does anyone have any idea how equipment prices compare up here in Chiang Mai to in Bangkok?
August 17, 201213 yr you can buy directly from the main stores and have them shipped especially if you are buying quite a few things. Just do a search on the web to find their prices.

I keep a Macro French Baguette under the car seat in case of trouble, less suspicious than a tire iron and much more lethal.
August 18, 201213 yr I wanted to buy some ingredients from the puen krua shop but when i asked where they came from was told america. Since that country grows a lot of genetically modified grains i felt unable to buy anything. I wonder if anybody has investigated further the source of all the ingredients that are sold in chiang mai shops?

GM includes lots of chemicals. It's a pretty poor choice, gm chemical ingredients or chemical ingredients.
