Echo Planet, Did Anyone See It?

Featured Replies

Did anyone see Echo Planet the movie? I took my daughter to see it a while ago and I was a bit offended by it. It was a cartoon directed toward kids and one of the main characters was the President's Son, (Even though the name was changed of the country it was obviously America) who made fun of other characters in the movie because they spoke a different language than he. He also climbed on sacred structures and made fun of the local culture. It was only the enlightened little local child that saved the day and corrected all the bad people from foreign lands. The Enlightened child taught the foreign people to stop wasting Electricity and polluting the land. I found it very ironic as Thailand doesn't do that much recycling and even a pack of gum from 7/11 comes in its own little plastic bag.

Nice bit of propaganda, but the USA is one of the biggest consumers of energy Thailand and most of the rest of the world does not come close.

Recycling wise i have no clue, as i often see Thais pick up the trash and seperate it. Though a lot is burned too.. so no idea.

The main characters in the film are Karen, not Thai. Strong, positive portrayal of a marginalized ethnic group as well as a good environmental message. Messages about not littering, pollution, and energy conservation are sorely needed in Thailand and it is great that such a positive message comes from these characters.
