Dental Help Please.

Hi all.

I'm an Aussie guy needing some advice. My Thai wife & 2 teenage daughters will be visiting their family at Christmas. Youngest is in need of dental work, I think major. Any recommendations for reputable Denture Clinic in Pattaya ? I know there's a clinic on every corner but will feel a bit better if one recommended by a member.

Bangkok Pattaya Hospital on Sukumvit Rd. They have excellent dental surgeons, that specialise in all forms of dental work. I have had some work done on my old teeth that I thought wanted pulling out. They not only saved them, but I have had no more trouble with the teeth. The prices were very comparable with other dentists in Pattaya.

Dr Aree is great. But she's just a general dentist. If the OP needs "major" work, they'll be referred to other dentists there. Most of which are pretty good.

IMHO, the best place I've found is in Bangkok:

Prices are incredibly reasonable and it's 4 floors of nothing but dentists. Every specialist imaginable is there. Unlike most places here in Pattaya. And if they do have specialists here, they tend to only come in on certain days of the week.

I've had some fairly major work done there. Great service.

P.S. one problem you might find is some dentists here will recommend services that are just not needed. Just to bump up the bill. I've never encountered it at the place in Bangkok. Quite the contrary...when I asked if a particular procedure was needed, they said NO. Wait. Maybe in a few years. Great stuff.

at the top of soi 4 jomtien, 2nd rd end. next to 7/11 ..

i think its called ocean clinic

its the only dentist I've been to in my life where there was no pain whatsoever . could not even feel the Anastasie needle going in

and the dental work was good also

Don't overlook the possibility of using one of the dental clinics that are often available at the Thai Government Hospitals.

For example, the other day my girl was munching on some farang hard candy and broke one of her fillings.

We tried to book into a couple of dentists in Phuket Town (to no avail).

Instead, we drove up to the hospital at Thalang and found out that they have a dental clinic there two times every day (one in the morning and one in the afternoon). We were lucky and had just walked in at the start of the afternoon session.

Only had to wait a few minutes and then both myself and my girl were invited inside the surgery.

Good overall equipment, clean, and all lady staff. They set to work on my girl and asked me what I needed. Nothing...I am just here to check things out...but to hell with it I sat in the other chair and had the girls do a full check up, clean and polish. My dentist and the other girls in the surgery were giggling and chatting amongst themselves the whole time (I don't think they get to work on many Farang blokes).

They finished up and we then went back out to the front cashiers part of the hospital to pay.

Checkup and three fillings for my girl (in addition to the broken filling there was another two dodgy ones in other teeth)

Checkup, clean and polish for me

Total bill 1280THB (yes...not a misprint...1280THB) Although dual pricing still applied... 500THB fee for the checkup on the farang. It was 60THB for my girl.

Amazingly cheap, great job, lovely girls, and no time wasted sitting in a waiting room

I realise your wife may not be heading down to Phuket, but I note that she is Thai, and so it would be easy for her to track down a well equiped government hospital dental clinic near to where she will be staying with your kids.

I've been to Queen Sirikit hospital in Sattahip for dental work. The specialist I needed to see only works one day a week in Pattaya. So, decided to head down there as I needed to see someone fast.

Much cheaper than here in Pattaya, but you need to show up REALLY early and wait a LONG time. Bring a book. If you don't arrive early, there's no place to sit. I showed up at 7am thinking I was OK. Wrong. No seats for me, so had to stand waiting for my name to be called. A bit over 2 hours, with an initial 1 hour for checkin as I was a new patient.

Then, they scheduled a followup in Pattaya. I'm guessing it was just to charge the higher rate and make a few bucks. I was right. Not much was done here and I was charged a bundle.

No fun...but cheap.

I suggest as your family is Thai...that you go anywhere but Pattaya for treatment and save yourself a fortune!! It is well accepted that Pattaya Dentists overcharge!

Well accepted by who? I found dental work in Patatya to be cheaper then in Bangkok and never thought I was being overcharged. I also recommend Dr Tapisit at Studio Smile at the Dolphin Circle.

Right. Around here, Banglamung Hospital is good 'nuff for routine procedures and very cheap. No dual pricing the times I've been.

I took detailed photos of the offending 2 front teeth & e-mailed to 3 recommended clinics. All replied within a couple of days with same advice. Treatment via orthodontic braces is best option. All advised to have treatment carried out in Australia as will require adjustment every 2 or 3 months. Because of nature of offending teeth possible 3 to 4 years of wearing braces will be required

Not one clinic suggested we visit for their inspection. Nice to know not everyone in Pattaya is out to make a quick buck at farang expense.
