My Czech friend

lost her passport and work permit to a motor cycycle scam on the islands

Local police have report but will not act

She reptored to embassy who say wait a week

He wants 10k plus for a scratch

She can get temp passport but only to go home

She is not a tourist but has a professional position with nn o visa with 90 day report in about 2 weeks

Has lost entry stamp and arrival card and has 90 days due soon

Any advice welcome

Should go to Immigation or Polce Bangkok where she lives

Chang Wattana or

Soi Suan Plu ?

The normal procedure with the loss of a passport is as follows:

1. Report the loss to the local police station and get a copy of the report.

2. Take the report to the embassy and apply for a replacement passport.

3. With the new passport and the police report, got to the local immigration office and have details of the last entry and permission to stay noted in the new passport.

It is unusual for an embassy to refuse to issue a regular replacement passport and offer only a temporary passport valid for travel only to one's own country, but if this how it works in the Czech Republic, so be it. Ask to speak directly to the consul for confirmation, or email the Foreign Affairs Ministry of your country.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Immigration for her would be Chang Wattana road.

thank you i will foward your comments

It might help for her to go to the Tourist police with the report from the island. Tourist police often take this kind of thing more seriously than local police.

It sounds like the embassy is telling her to wait 10 days to see if the police sort things out.

Cheers Joe I will also forward your useful suggestion the problem with 6 month Czech rplacement passport its not valid long enouh to enter on awork permit she was told by embassy and thaye take months to issue passports even in Prag

The 6 month passport should not be a problem for work permit if she has one already. Work permits are not tied to extensions or the validity of a passport.

Immigration probably would only transfer her extension for the length of time she has on passport and give her the full amount when she gets new passport.
