Why are speed boats allowed to operate from swimming beaches here

They should have a speed limit on these beaches of 5 knots but they

just drive at high speed even when there are swimmers in the water

and do not care less about public safety

As you will see by the Tiger fire there is no health and safety in this country, it will never change!! Bringing health and safety into this country would see every shop, every factory, every beach close!!

Just like the speed limit on the local roads..

Who cares what it is?

The quicker I take you, the quicker I get back, for the next sucker..

Not really they are driving the boats where the people are swimming at high speeds which makes it very difficult to get out of there way and they think its funny

They should be restricted to operating to one or both ends of the beach in non swimming areas, this goes for the jet-skis as well

Not really, i like living here and think it is one of the best tourist destinations in Asia

2 days ago a tourist was run over and killed by a speedboat at Pi Pi island

Its about time the authorities either banned or restricted the use of speedboats and jet-skis at all swimming beaches, its only in a few Asian countries they are allowed near swimming beaches

They should only be allowed operate in restricted areas away from swimmers

Agree with you but nothing will change here so best to just accept what goes on!!

kawapower, I'm afraid Your'e right..

Thailand in general, and Phuket in particular, is an attractive destination for many of us to both live and/or visit, not least because of it's unregulated, unpoliced environment, and laid back attitude to many aspects of life which in our home countries we consider invasive and unnecessary.

However, that environment has it's own pitfalls for the unwary or unprepared, which when tragedies or distressful/distasteful situations occur, often attracts calls for the very same standards of where we came from to be applied.

Whilst the 'get used to it' comment is sometimes a hard one to accept, it's nonetheless true, with 'protect yourselves and those around you' first and foremost being perhaps the best advice.

Looking after number 1 is the way here, yes things are bad but those things will remain the same here forever, we don't like it but we have to accept it!!
