I see many trafficants in Pattaya, both thai's and falangs, mostly old,

keep driving with their signal ON, but still don't turn,

or even turn the other way.

Do You ?

hmm, that's done in North America too, so I think it's just an OLD thing, not a location or Nationality thing.

My 86 year old father quit using signals when he turned 78. I think it's a requirement to get into the Old Mans Club.

Aren't indicators in cars self-cancelling? The people who seem oblivious to the fact that their indicators are one are the motorcycle riders and most of them are under 30. So what's their excuse?

Guilty (but not under 30 unfortunately). I think because it is not self cancelling and I often find if i have turned in to stop somewhere when I eventually set off the indicator is still going but I do not notice it for a while.

The car indicator is more visible and audible so is not an issue.

You want to know the secret for not getting pulled over by coppers for driving in the right hand lane (which is 'supposed' to be for overtaking?).

That's right. Keep your right indication signal on as you are nominally 'overtaking' other traffic.

Ensures you get waved through.

Maybe those people aren't as inattentive as you think. Just saying.

Indicators in bikes are not self cancelling and even the latest Honda modells do not have an acoustic indicator as often heard in Europe.

So that is my excuse.

I believe that in cars they cancel themselves after you move the steer (like turning). Our latest car has an other setting where it only blinks for 3 times and then cancels.

I forget turning of my signaling lights on my scooter.. not on my bigger bike but on the scooter its not always clear. Maybe im just absent minded.

My brain cells are so damaged by alcoholic beverage that I cannot be expected to remember to turn my indicators off every time.

An audio signal would not work either as i am as deaf as a post whistling.gif

But what is this with blaming older people for doing this on m/c? I see many people of ALL ages and nationalities leaving their indicators on when on m/c. Another ageist topic?

Its absent minded and forgetful people. They are usually older people, but in this case im not old but forget too.

I don't see it so much with cars but it's common practice with motorbikes, but how can they remember to turn off their indicators when they are either on their mobiles or talking to a pillion passenger. Yes, any excuse to blame the "oldies", we're all just a bunch of feeble minded, senile old fools according to some members.

You can also use the "lifesaver" when approaching a road block whilst in the right lane. They tend to use eye-contact as the preferred method to stop customers motorists. If you are looking over your shoulder to see if there is anything dangerous (which you should be doing anyway on a motorbike) then you can't really be stopped for "Jit Sai".

I adhered as good as i could to the "do you drink and drive" topic. So now we can peacefully call everyone that drives with signal on scumbags that belong in prison, just as many did with that other drive offense

Also guilty. My motorcycle indicater is not self cancelling, not to sure about other makes though.Fortunately i don't ride it in built up areas although that is no excuse for not cancelling the signal.

You can't see the warning light on your dash in the bright sunlight.

(Good excuse?)

If I leave it on, sometimes I’ll just turn, so the people behind me don’t think I’m an idiot.rolleyes.gif

I always turn on the left signal and than turn right.....

That just seems appropriate to the Thai common sense on driving cars.....
