A number of expats I know living in Thailand have received via their UK address a demand for money by debt collectors (supposed) to be by way of HMRC. Some of these could be valid given....

About 500,000 people are being sent notices of penalties of at least £1,200 for failing to submit their self-assessment tax returns.

... but many of them I have found through my (and others within a large group exposing scams in geresearchasearch to be fraudulent. A debt value of £1000 (Below the £1200 above) from the company http://www.drydensfairfax.co.uk/ seem to be getting through because they do ALSO act as a collecting agency for the UK government. This one flagged up within days because all of the people were in Thailand, all had to self assess and all had demands below the minimum of £1200. Do NOT pay via the 'bank giro credit' form attached which looks to us as valid (don't know how they do it), pay directly to HMRC. Even though they are a band of robbers at least you will stop getting demands.
