RELATED AGENCIES TASKED WITH FIGHTING POVERTY CALLED UPON FOR POLICY REVIEW

Director of the Poverty Eradication Center General Chavalit Yongchaiyuth (ชวลิต ยงใจยุทธ ) called a meeting of related agencies tasked with fighting poverty yesterday to review and set new measures for poverty eradication this year.

Deputy director of the Community Organizations Development Institute Jirika Nutalai (จิริกา นุตาลัย), as deputy secretary-general of the public sector’s poverty eradication center, said that public organizations participating in the meeting presented information on poverty eradication during the past years to the meeting. She said that some state agencies and communities still see poverty eradication in a passive manner, waiting to be helped by authorities, while the implementation of the policies are not easy to carry out. She added that some laws do not facilitate the work, while coordination still cannot over all areas of the problem.

Ms. Jirika said that this Friday, the national Poverty Eradication Center will call the first meeting to evaluate prior poverty eradication efforts before a meeting scheduled on January 30, in which the premier will participate.
