Americans Having Baby In Thailand

Featured Replies

Hi,

I need some current information regarding having a child in Thailand. girlfriend is 10 weeks along.

My American girlfriend is pregnant and are planning on having the baby delivered in a Thai hospital.

I too am an American.

Does anyone have any first hand knowledge on costs and visa's needed, and Thai citizenship ect.

Any and all advice in this area greatly appreciated.

If you have the delivery in a government hospital it is very cheap, although I am sorry I cannot tell you how cheap. Probably less than the taxi ride you would have taken to have the baby delivered back home though. Private hospitals can vary widely. We had our two children in a decent private hospital here in Pathum Thani, and I think the cost for an umcomplicated delivery and 3 day stay was something like 500 bucks, although it would probably be a bit more now. As neither of you is Thai your child is not entitled to Thai citizenship simply by being born here.
