My GF from China is visiting Bangkok for the first time. She has return tickets etc for 2 weeks stay. Understand she will need to apply for a Visa-on-arrival. However, she doesnt understand thai or english. Is there a service at the Counter where she can pay and use to apply at the arrival terminal. Will appreciate if someone has this experience and advise ....

1000 baht, pay at immigration, 15 day entry.

Not sure if you have seen the form you have to fill in on entry to Thailand but its very simple.

Name, passport number,occupation things like that. I bet the cabin crew would help her if she can ask them as they issue the forms out on some flights.

There is a well marked area for visa on arrival near the normal immigration area.

From MFA website.

- The applicant must possess means of living expenses at the amount of 10,000 Baht per person and 20,000 Baht per family accordingly. - The applicant must possess a passport with at least six-month validity and must present full paid ticket which is usable within 15 days since the date of entry - Visa on arrival is provided at 24 designated international checkpoints and applicants should submit the application form duly filled out and to which his/her recent photograph (4 x 6 cm) is attached. The application fee is 1,000 Baht.

Believe this is what will be presented for visa on arrival (along with the 1,000 baht fee).

Ask your G/F (I presume she is Chinese) to check with the airline. Some airlines in China won't check you in if you haven't got a valid visa in your passport.

Most tourist agencies in China will get a visa for her, they charge about 200rmb. plus the visa fee and it takes about one week to process.

Despite the good intentions of the Thai government by making it relatively easy for Chinese citizens to travel to Thailand for short stays, it's only possible to use the visa-on-arrival service if said Chinese citizens arrive from a third country or region other than mainland China. As the previous poster said, airlines won't allow Chinese travellers departing from mainland China to leave for Thailand, even on a return ticket, without a visa. I have even heard of Chinese citizens being turned back at the Chinese checkpoint next to Laos because they didn't possess a Lao visa, despite Laos offering 30 day visas on arrival for Chinese travellers at a cost of US$20.
