Surapong: Thailand promotes nuclear for peace only

TEHRAN, 29 August 2012 (NNT) – Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul has announced to the world community that Thailand promotes nuclear use for peace only.

Mr Surapong affirmed the country’s stance at the ministerial level meeting of the 16th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit being held in Iran, from August 28-31.

In his speech under the theme: “Lasting Peace through Joint Global Governance”, the Minister portrayed the sufficiency economy principle that the Yingluck Shinawatra’s administration has been supporting. He also expressed concerns over nuclear threats on the global community, saying Thailand wished that nuclear proliferation would only be designed for peace, to ensure happiness of all, and such move must be done in a transparent manner outlined by the IAEA.

Mr Surapong also talked about impacts of human trafficking, transnational weapon trade, and money laundering activities.

The NAM meeting is participated by high-level delegations from more than 100 countries and international organizations. The leaders summit will take place on August 30 and 31, during which UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will also attend.

According to Mr Surapong, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has entrusted him to represent her at the summit and to deliver on her behalf a statement on Sustainable Peace in the Shared Global Management on August 30.

A very interesting perspective considering the same guy is suggesting a US/UN/EU sanction busting food for oil scheme with a country who is suspected of developing nuclear weapons....rolleyes.gif

I have a horror of anyone Thai having their finger near to a red button that could launch a ICBM. They would be in place for about 3 minutes before some Somchai remembers some guy cutting him up that morning and obliterating half of China Town. When will the Thais learn. When it comes to the big boy conversations they should just stay quiet and feel lucky that they are at least allowed in as spectators.

Surely some contradiction?

And ironically it is being held in TEHRAN, 29 August 2012 (NNT)

Sounds like the Un-United Nations.

Well, no one really listens to the mumblings of Thailand on a world basis unless it's something like "free room upgrade in Hotel, in Thailand".

The words Thailand and Nuclear in the same sentence gives me the shivvers, imagine if thailand ever built a nuclear reactor for power generation on Thai soil, with all the kickbacks and short cuts, well you could imagine the eventual result............ nuclear power plant consol operator to engineer "The reactor is approaching meltdown, why haven't the safeties come on line? I activated the safety protocols." Engineer "the CEO said there wasn't enough left in the budget after all the 'administrative fees', so he said to put the switches on the consol and the program in the computer (set to training mode) to make it look like everything was in place for the safety inspections." Consol operator (what do we do? We are about to cross the point of no return." Engineer "begin to evacuate the plant, tell everyone its just a training execise, everything will be ok, this isn't Chernobal you know."

Many people suspect that Iran, with little need for nuclear power generation and refusing offers of non-plutonium producing technology, is in fact seeking to produce nuclear weapons, and using power production as a smokescreen.

Expecting Surapong, not picked for his intelligence or perspicacity, to see through this facade is asking too much of the man. Obviously there must be some advantage to cozying up to a pariah regime - whether it for Thailand or the family whose interests are his prime importance is open to conjecture.

"Whichever way the wind blows." <- Thailand's foreign policy.

Right now, it's blowing from China. The US/EU/UN can go chak wow (fly a kite), at least until the other shoe drops and China wants theirs...

Thailand's need for oil far outweighs any allegiance to its former allies, at least until the fortune cookie crumbles...

19th century diplomacy in the 21st century...

Really, supporting the sufficiency economy principle, hhmm, must have missed that one, or do they mean the rice pledging scheme, the new home/car buyer support, the farmer credit cards etc.? whistling.gif

Surapong: Sounds like this guy is taking A BOWEL MOVEMENT..or is Awfully Constipated

Darn, there go hopes for a nukes-for-rice barter-deal, then ! rolleyes.gif

I can just see it now...Thailand has a nuke...or two....makes me wonder how

these bad guys in the troubled southern provinces will react.

Without commenting on the intelligence or family relationship of Surapong, many more people in Europe don't believe that Iran is developing nuclear weapons. And as there is no proof, neither do I. The whack Iran mob are only giving their usual blind support to Israel, who many think is a far greater threat to peace in the ME.

What scares me more is "Lasting Peace through Joint Global Governance" Neither will happen, especially if the latter is in place.
