Thailand claims Guinness World Record for mass massage

Thailand claimed to have pipped Australia on Thursday in providing the world's largest and longest mass, synchronised massage.

Some 641 Thai masseuses massaged 641 recipients for 12 minutes without stopping at Bangkok Mueang Thong Thani Convention Centre, breaking a previous record set in 2010 by 236 masseuses in Australia.

"We have set a Guinness World Record," Public Health Ministry spokeswoman Papawadee Siripoh said.

"We wanted 800 masseuses but only 641 showed up, but that was enough to make the record," she said

Mass synchronized dipping into the public coffers by the current maladministration would indeed be a winner too.

How pathetic can the health ministry be? Yet again the fiasco that is the government is again highlighted for all to see.

How many of those 641 had a happy ending? Is there a Guiness Record for that?

Only if all the happy endings occurred simultaneously. Will the spectators in the front row step back NOW !!!! laugh.png

Thailand sets world record for mass massage

Bangkok, Aug 30, 2012 (AFP) - Hundreds of people pushed, prodded and stretched their way to a new world record for the biggest simultaneous group massage, in the Thai capital Bangkok on Thursday, organisers said.

A total of 1,282 entrants took part in the event at a convention centre, smashing the previous Guinness World Record of 526 people set in Daylesford, Australia, in March 2010.

"I feel excited and thrilled. I want Thai massage to be famous all around the world," said 50-year-old masseuse Pinprapar Meedej.

The event was staged by the Thai government in an effort to lure foreigners to a country whose tourist-friendly image has been tested in recent years by deadly floods, political violence and concerns about crime and safety.

"We had expected about 800 pairs but on the day of the rehearsal only this number showed up," said event spokeswoman Supaporn Rungcharoenkiat. "But we're sure that we broke the record."

The kingdom wants to shed its reputation for sex tourism -- including brothels disguised as massage parlours -- and promote itself as a growing hub for medical tourism.

Supporters of traditional Thai massage say people in pain need look no further than their local spa.

"Thailand is the number one medical hub. You can be cured with Thai massage. There's no need to use medicine and it's 100 percent safe," said 39-year-old massage instructor Duangvarat Insee.

Most of the people who took part were qualified massage therapists, but others were just happy to enjoy a free session of "the lazy man's yoga".

"That was great. My legs feel good and I can walk better," said 72-year-old pensioner Mora Saelim.

Calling the event mass massage might not achieve this aim.

I would think that combined, Patpong, Patong, Nana, Cowboy, Beach Rd, and those big Japanese places up on Ratchada would win this competition every night of the week.

Couldn't claim a world record for the worlds brightest student could they , had to be what they're world renowned for, nothing to write home about. sad.png

Maybe have a contest to congregate as many students using a tablet PC? Thailand would be a shoo-in!

That is probably true, I mean look at the way the Government Massages Their Citizens.

and the Courts etc etc etc etc...I think the word MASSAGE is being confused here with the proper word which is SNOWJOB!

They wanted 800 and only 641 should up...Well they reason is they can't count changes or anything else without a calulator.

and they left their little calculators at home. Thats the logical reason they only got 641 out of 800.

Now that makes sense, doesn't it! They simply mis calculatedcoffee1.gifgiggle.gifsmile.pngbiggrin.pngtongue.pnglaugh.pngwai.gif

Future world record attempts include :

Simultanious stabbing of tourists in broad daylight.

Simultanious scamming of jetski renters.

I'm confident there will be no competition in these subjects, and they will not be short of participants as well this time.

I do believe this should have been an olympic sport with happy ending and Thailand would surely have received at least one gold medal.

At any minute of any day in Pattaya, more than 641 massages are taking place.
