Cannot See Fta On Thaicom 5 Ku

Featured Replies

With the satellite dish pointing at Thaicom 5 at 78.5°E and I have Lock & Sync @ 85%

Using OpenPLi-beta-dm500-old-framebuffer-20120828-272.img On my DM518S.

I can find the satellite Thaicom5 with no problem but I cannot view most of the channels like Thai TV 3, 5, 9. Yet I can get Tsport.

The majority of channels are prefixed by an ! mark

Surely these are all FTA? If so, any ideas what the problem might be?

Thanks for your patience :)

They are not fta. They sit on a Truevisions transponder and are encrypted. They can be unscrambled for free (which is what the truevisions life+ receiver does), but not sure how it would go on a dreambox.

The real fta channels (3,5,7,9) are on c-band.

Take a look at the color coding at the bottom of this Lyngsat Link for C and KU band channels on Thaicom5 that are FTA (i.e., not encrypted, clear, etc). Not a lot of FTA on KU band; but a ton on C band such as Ch 3, 5, 7, 9, etc.

Thanks for the answer. I'm learning more each day :)

So installing a C Band LNB should do it?

If not I'll get one of the set top boxes that cost 600 Baht for FTA and nothing more to pay after that :)

Aha. I see that now. Thanks :)

If the C band LNB idea is no good as I've said in reply to Monty, I'll go with that box for 600 Baht that lets me get Thai and FTA with no further payment. Better than the cheaper box that requires 300 Baht a month for ever after :)

Can't do c-band with the small solid dish, you need at least a 1.5m mesh dish (along with c-band lnb of course).

Your best options are the Truevision life+box (not too many channels when only ku-band, for all the channels you'd need a big dish as well), or an IPM box.

For this you need to change the dish direction (about 40° to the left) and make sure you have a universal ku-band lnb.

Has a few English movie channels, real tv, some sports channels and over 100 Thai channels. Including ch 3,5,7 and 9...

The full.set including dish and lnb is only 1800 Baht, no monthly fees...

If you can install a 1.5M (or larger if desired...I use a 1.7M) C band dish and C band LNB your rainfade problems will be gone even in the nastiest thunderstorms for almost all FTA channels (especially for the main Thai channels), lots more FTA channels, dirt cheap C/KU band settop boxes, no more monthly subscription payments, etc. But for farangs the great, great majority of FTA channels (hundreds of them) on Thaicom5 are in Thai, SE Asia, Southwest Asia, India, etc., languages. Not many English language channels except religious, a few Asian movie chnnels, Russia Today News in Engish, etc. There ain't no CNN, BBC, CNBC, HBO, etc., in English FTA on Thaicom5.
