Hi All, My Thai wife & I are preparing to bring her daughter ( 9 yrs old) to the UK.

My wife has been with me in the Uk for nearly 2 yrs, I am aware that she is able to send a 'Letter of Parental Consent' to her sister, who lives in Thailand so that she is able to take my wifes daughter, along with the girls Father to apply for a Thai Passport.

Do we need this signed, stamped etc. by the Thai Embassy in the UK, & is the Embassy in London the only place able to do this?

Are there any other documents needed to do this?

Any thoughts, advice would be appreciated

Thanks

I expect you know and I take it he is still alive but I believe you need the father of your wifes child to consent or sign for her to get her first passport.. This is done so people do not flee abroad with a child.. Good luck

Info from Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.

Notes :

- If necessary, both parents who cannot accompany the applicant under the age of 15 to apply for an e-passport, may designate a representative to do on their behalf.

A representative is required to submit additional documents as follows :

(1) a letter of Authorization from the applicant’s parents giving he/she the authority to sign a parental consent form in front of the Passport Office’s authorized personnel

(2) a parental consent letter signed by the applicant’s non-appearing parents

(3) original Citizenship I.D. Cards of the applicant’s parents

(4) the representative’s Citizenship I.D.Card (original document)

- A parental consent letter and a letter of Authorization must be notarized by the Thai district registration office or the Thai embassy / consulate–general abroad.

You could use one of the honorary consulates in the UK to get notarization done.

You say that you want to bring the girl to the UK. To live or for a visit?

If settlement, you may have a problem.

From what you say, the child's father takes an active interest in her upbringing. This means your wife may fail the sole responsibility criterion.

Thanks for the link, I have been trying to contact The Thai Consulate in Liverpool (as I live in North Wales) to see if they are able to notarize the Letter of consent rather than having to travel to London to get this done.

Yes we are applying for a settlement visa, but the Father has nothing to do with his daughter at all. He was contacted by my wifes sister to ask him to go in person when applying for the passport. He has given his consent to allow his daughter to come & live with us in the UK.

She lives with my Wifes Mother & we send money for her schooling, maintenance etc. & make the decisions regarding her upbringing etc.
