I know we have found many great places to eat on this forum so would like to share

one.

I have eaten Radna ราดหน้ at this place for years & always wanted to share it

but was never able to really give the directions.

Basically you drive from Chiangmai to Hangdong & when the road changes from 2 lanes to one you turn left at the

stop light. Then about .5 mile down that road on the left after you see the Mandala Sign on left it is the next left soi

& then just on the right one empty lot in from the road. Will attach map below.

Ate there again today & found a map online.

It is a bit of a drive ( well not really but further than most places we eat ) from central Chiangmai but worth it for us.

The name is Coffee Cottage & they use to have a large all wood building that they knocked down (hence the empty lot next door )

& now serve in a newer building next door to the empty corner lot they were. Has a cool fan room or a air conditioned room

As well as outside seating. Never busy when I am there

The Radna is Hong Kong style meaning the noodles are slightly fried giving them a crisp edge but

the rest has a nice chewy delicious texture.

They serve all kinds of Thai foods actually but the Radna is always a favorite of ours.

Also something they call pork toast salad. A fresh green salad served with 5 or 6 small

French toast style pieces of bread with a small piece of pork in the center.

They serve it with their own pumpkin & black pepper dressing on the side.

This dressing is delicious & they sell it to go in a small container suitable for

a salad or two & also a larger quart size.

Of course with their name the coffee is excellent & the Ice Coffee served in big Mason jars.

Here is the map....

I randomly used Chang Klan as a starting point

Also a web site I found about them..which is how I found the map

Here is a picture of the Radna ( Gai ) I had today. The red pepper I added before I remembered to take the pic.

I notice this post is a tad quiet. Perhaps you should have mentioned the lashing of vile greasy, heart killing cancerous crap that they serve for breakfast for a very, very cheap price...second, third pilings a foot high free. Personally I am a throwback as actually have breakfast at home, maybe I am missing something but seems it only cardiac arrest.

haha yes I have to admit I was a little surprised at so many views but no comments.

I just assumed that maybe I had mentioned a place everyone already knew about or

it was too far?

I was just thinking of it again tonight because we made a nice garden salad at home & used that dressing.

I really love that dressing smile.png

Anyway if you ever get a chance try them. I do not think you will be disappointed.

I have tried a few of their dishes & all were very good.

Thanks Rancid

Like I said I think you will not be disappointed.

I was thinking that I have been going there since 2007

& at that time they were still in their Teak wood building.

The one they tore down & is now a empty lot next door.

Anyway I remembered I had taken pictures back then so looked.

I did & funny as I ate the same thing back then.

Here are a few pictures...

The Radna is the same

The picture of the pork toast salad with that great dressing is more than half eaten before I took the pic smile.png

Also a couple of pics of their old building

It was quite charming.

A shame they had to tear it down.

Likewise. What the big fuss? I've been here 5 years now and never once gone out for breakfast. Same when living in Europe 6 years. Always breakfast at home. How difficult is it to make some toast and coffee, throw some eggs and sausage in a pan, open some yoghurt -- or whatever? I don't understand all the fuss.

I believe Google streetview shows the old teak building. That would be on the Ban Tawai Road?

I'm partial to a good rard na. tongue.png

Yes street view showing the old building but the new one is right next door.

The old one was right on the corner of the main Ban Tawai Rd the new one just the

other side of it.

So yes on that being the right road & the map should still be accurate enough within a few feet smile.png

Oh if you like Radnaa you will love it

Enjoy

I love lad nah, but the problem is where to find a decent one closer to town. I have 2 places on Changklan where I can pick up a cheap one in a bag and take home. That's fine, but not the same as one made with love and a mix of vegetables and better pieces of meat in it. I suspect many of the guesthouses in town have kitchens that turn out pretty good ones for about 60b a plate/bowl, but I never make the time to go around and survey.

Open to any recommendations nearer the city.

It is kinda of a social thing. I will eat a good breakfast at home of cereal and bananas. But if I go out for a breakfast it gets me out of the house and around. Currently like one in the old town off of soi 6 On the east side of the old city on the inside of it the moat. A nice fruit breakfast with yogurt and musali. (sorry about the spelling I am sure a spelling cop will be along)

Often go with friends for breakfast. Yes it is nice to try different places. But then again I don't work I am retired and can take the time out to do different things.

It's rather peculiar Rad Na.. I did like it but never had something like it. I was expecting a scond kind of crispy noodles being added but that's not what they did, they got the regular wide white noodles crispy, likely by deep frying them. Interesting. Not health food, but interesting.

Glad you gave it a try & liked it.

Yes, as I said The Radna is Hong Kong style meaning the noodles are slightly fried giving them a crisp edge but

In the pictures I posted the ends of the noodles are crisp. I think they only crisp the ends.

Unless they flash fry them in a shallow pan? Seems if they deep fried the whole noodle the center sections would be affected as well.

I always mean to ask them if they make their own noodles too.

The main sections that are under the toppings seems thicker & have a nice texture.

The difference reminds me of fresh pasta versus the other type.
