markt
This message board forum about Malaysia/Penang has no topics about the bomb on the 16th Jan, so i started one up to see what the local expats were thinking about it. I wonder why the silence? Edited January 26, 2006 by markt

Kringle
Might be that a lot of people go to Penang for visas and if a bomb was reported as being found or going off, I think people here would want to know. Thankfully I don't have to do that anymore.
ovenman
I wonder why the silence? From the report that ran in The Star, it sounded like an isolated incident even though it did occur in a public place (outside Prangin Mall). Maybe there just wasn't much to talk about? Erwin1011
Keep in mind that 1. Malaysian Press is one under a very tight control of the government. 2. Penang always has been a Chinese heaven for the local gangs. 3. More and more muslims are taking over certain traditionally chinese positions of power. 4. Muslims are imposing more their religious restrictions upon the population. Penang Island is consired to be a "front' situation in the holy war by many radical muslims.
