braid101 Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Hello, My wife recently tried to apply for a job in the UK... She has just arrived on a Spouse visa (shes thai). But they said they need proof that she can work in the UK. I told them she can and showed her passport but they said that isnt enough. Her type of visa is "VISA SPOUSE/CP" as it is in the passport. It also states "Obsrv. - No recourse to public funds" Her National Insurance arrived a couple of days ago, but iam pretty sure that isnt proof of right to work... so... What is proof of right to work in the UK? And how can I get it for my wife? Any help is much appreciated.
bobrussell Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 The passport is proof enough that she can work legally. A visit visa will state 'No work or recourse to public funds' or similar wording. A student visa will state the maximum number of hours (20 I think) that can be worked. An employer can check the right to work with the visa holders permission: http://www.ukba.home...g/checking-brp/ Hopefully this will do the job!
7by7 Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Further to above, see item 1 on list B (page 27) of the UKBA's guide to employers. As Bob says, if she were not allowed to work or the type or hours of work were restricted then her visa would be endorsed accordingly. See page 44 of that document.
