I’m amazed at some of you guys calling NG a <deleted>. The guy is a genuine legend in UK and anyone that knows anything would list him as a favorite act. Quite simply, if you don’t like NG you are probably a <deleted> yourself who likes Phil Collins or something equally as <deleted>.

Oasis made a massive impact on the 90’s music scene for all the right reasons. In the 70’s and 80’s, most young blokes liked good old British punk and rock, ten pints on a Friday night and a row at the football. In the late eighties and early 90’s all these same blokes started going to raves, dropping pills, and hugging each other. I was one of them. Girl bands made an appearance and female lead singers of rock bands singing about peace and love came about. Oasis popped into the scene with a “fuc_k this, lets be lads again” attitude and reminded we Brits what it’s all about to be British.

NG is probably one of the best song writers to come out of UK in decades and despite the chav reference of another poster, he is erudite, intelligent and brilliantly witty: it’s almost impossible to win an argument with the bloke and he has come out with some of the best one liner put downs I have ever heard.

If I can find a way to get tickets, I will be going for certain. I remember having tickets to see Oasis at Wembley Stadium with a load of mates around 2001 and didn’t make it out of the pub, unfortunately. I’ve always regretted that. I also missed them in 2005 in BKK and regret that even more. I will definitely be going this time around and will love every minute of it. Quality bloke, quality band, quality songs.

NG "is a genuine legend in UK." Uh huh, David hasselhoff is huge in germany, so whats yer point?

And if being British is about being a lad, keep it mate, i'm happy to be Canadian.

So he was not arrested and has no police record, whats your agenda?, as I said you know nothing about him, he was one of the best song writers of his generation, I feel privileged to be able to see him in Bangkok , a place that not so many top recording stars come to play.

Just to put your mind at rest, I don't think there is a cat in hell's chance he will receive a Knighthood, so you can sleep well

Probably am a <deleted>, been called worse.

Agree with the comment ref Phil Collins and other equally <deleted> music.

Have already mentioned two bands I like, are they <deleted>?

"Oasis made a massive impact on the 90’s music scene"

Agreed, but we had seen it all before, what did they bring that was new, back to The Stone Roses again, eg ripped them off.

Yeh, agreed. NG did nick pretty much most of there music style from The Beatles and possibly a little from John Squire, Stone Roses.... he is always pretty honest about that though. I didnt say there are inventive. They just sort of.. I dunno... Brought lad culture back with a bang at a time when everything went way too peace and love. I mean for gods sake there were rave bands on top of the pops singing about cartoons such as rubarb and custard. We all got way too carried away with acid house "whats your name where you from what you on". Oasis sent a message of "look. Your a lad. You live in the center of Coventry and your dad is a coal miner. Why are you dressed in flares and flower shirts hugging complete strangers? Come on lets be lads again!" It was the music that drove me back into the town at a weekend dressed head to toe in Duffer St George and Gucci loafers ready to skull ten pints and pull a bird. Just how young lads should be. In my opinion.

"In the late eighties and early 90’s all these same blokes started going to raves, dropping pills, and hugging each other'

Agreed, one of my favourite groups at the time was The Beloved (you may remember, This Means War, A Hundred Words etc?) they to turned to <deleted> and went all techo craze crap.

Beloved - great band and they did go crappy techno which was annoying.

"NG is probably one of the best song writers to come out of UK in decades"

Depends on your definition of a song writer, personally I wouldnt rate him above, Morrissey, Paul Weller or another favourite of mine, Robin Hitchcock.

What has the guy released that could be considered as ground breaking or seminal, lets say on a par with Talk Talks Spirit Of Eden or Laughing Stock (come back Mark Hollis get this band back together) or Primal Screams Psychedlica?

No way would I rate NG above Morrisey or Weller. Got to be honest and admit I dont know who Robin Hitchcock is but ill google him lol. Ground breaking? I dunno... I dont think he wrote anything groundbreaking really.... Im not sure. But he did write some amazing songs. Some of the meant nothing. Champagne Supernova for example sounds like a song that means something very deep but actualy he was changing chanels on the TV and the last word said on BBC1 was "champagne" with the next word on BB2 "Supervova" and he figured that sounded good. Thats the thing about him - he dosent claim to have deep poetic meanings to some of his songs. other songs mean a lot though, such as Live Forever which is all about growing up, being young and distancing yourself from the older generation.

I remember watching him on TFI Friday once with Chris Evans. Evans had a list of his albums and said which is your least favourate one. he said "whats the story morning glory". Evans asked him what was wrong with it and he replied "nothing. Its fuc_king perfect" Genius.

Enjoy your concert, I know what its like to be starved of decent music here, I wont be in attendance,

I will "be back at home with The Beatles and The Stones"

Nothing wrong with that mate smile.png

And yes I still think the guy is a <deleted>.

Lol, fair enough.

I honestly think most people here are thinking of Liam Gallagher, his brother, who is a complete and utter <deleted> of the highest order. I honestly cant figure why anyone would coat off NG though. He's a nice bloke.

Agreed mate. Noel Gallagher is a legend. Oasis were one of the best bands to come out of the Uk for years. Some great music. NGHFB are superb aswell. Went to see them here in Sydney in January. Was at Wembley all those years ago and was drinking in the VIP bar so missed the Mondays play. 2005 in Bangers i was there. But fair enough if some don't like Oasis. We dont all like the same things. But to come on here and totally slag off NG when you're actually thinking of Liam. Makes you look stupid.

o.k. my opinion for what its worth.

bit of a load mouthed self opinionated one eye-browed <deleted> that got a lucky break on the arse end of the Manchester scene on Alan McGees Creation label after learning a few cords on a guitar whilst doing the rounds as a roadie at the end of the late 80s early 90s.

the first two albums credit where credits dew, but after going into a phase of thinking that he was some kind of reincarnated 2nd coming of John Lennon the music seemed to go down the tubes and his over sized alter-ego took over and that is where any respect i had for him ended.

never cracked the U.S. market, god knows why the mod father holds him in such high esteem and i am not entirely sure what his fellow peers that proceeded him, the likes of the Stone Roses, the Happy Mondays, the Charlatans, the Inspiral Carpets, the Verve, the Smiths and New Order really think of him.

perhaps the biggest injustice of all and one thing i could never understand is why a talent such as Andy Bell formerly of Ride and Hurricane # 1 took up the roll as second fiddle playing rhythm guitar within Oasis. the guy could lick Gallagher on a Gibson playing left handed with his hands tied behind his back and blindfolded, let alone on a Rickenbacker.

like i said though, its only my opinion.

Oasis. One of the most overrated bands ever. And now Noel is doing lame country rock music. Think I'll pass

Overrated? How so? I think Oasis's limitations have always been fairly well publicised, especially among the music press. The fact is, he has written music which is synonymous with the youth hood of many Brits, especially the working class, and there's going to be a lot of people there on Thursday who'll be treated to what I'm sure will be an awesome show by a genuine, un-pretensious member of rock-star royalty.

Hmmmmm, of an era perhaps. What happened them and to punk rock ?. Been and forgotten but real stuff is still being played 60 years on from unforgeable performers.

Erm they broke up because the brothers fell out. If they hadn't they'd still be selling out rather large venues around the world.

Forgotten ? biggrin.png

Why don't l hear their stuff on the radio ? I hear the greats all the time. Great for me, but it seems they are not up with the not forgotten greats. Not knocking what some want to hear thumbsup.gif , but to me seems just a neish following.

Back home you mainly either have radio stations playing current stuff that's mostly in the charts or old time music stations. Eighties and older stuff.

Oasis main period was the mid- ninties and the noughties so too new for old time radio stations.

As for if their post split bands get on the radio back home now on modern stations I don't know as I'm here. Noel Gallaghers high flying birds amd Liams Beady eye.

If Oasis were still together they'd sell out every gig they did in pretty large venues around the world. Remember their Knebworth gigs the biggest that had ever been done (?) that many people just don't go away.

As for Thailand, have you seen the cd's on the market stalls here or even record shops in Thailand ? For some reason they are full of stuff that no one has bought for 20/30 + years back home. Or Zombie while a good song, it's played over and over again by every cover band, everywhere. Hotel california etc. The majority here listen to Thai music all the time, but the majority of people that don't seem to listen to this old stuff or just the same stuff. Lack of promotion ?

There is a market here for Mr G as there is for other foreign stuff but it's limited , the price of the tickets exclude most and along with thre lack of advertising ? There was lots of Thais there last night though.

I can't believe some people would waste their time on this thread commenting on how others are wasting their money on seeing Noel Gallagher and calling him a talentless this and that. I could never imagine jumping onto a thread about Lady Gaga and sharing my contempt for her with a bunch of people who are paying to go and see her perform. Anyhow,,.

Come on, you can't accuse Noel Gallagher of summing up chav culture and then mention the Stone Roses in postive terms (I love the Roses by the way). Ian Brown? The guy screams chav!

And HandsVilder, am I to presume that you're posting at 3.49am as you've been up all night writing your novel, or playing backgammon down the British club? Of course you have mate.

Yup! Pretty mad innit?? Noels a chav and Ian Brown's a.. what exactly then?... Personally I love em both for their music, in it's time leastways.. Shaun Ryder / Happy Mondays, too, and their place in Brit Rock/ Brit Pop culture!! I also think lots of whingers on here - jeez aren't there enough of them, already?!!! - are also getting confused between the Gallagher brothers one of whom openly courted all the dodgy publicity, including falling out with his own sibling!!! ps: I loved Nirvana too.. Kurt Kobain's a legend, clearly was well screwed up, and a junkie, but a rock legend nonetheless.. (yes, i know not a Brit but just answering another pointless jibe on here...)...wai.gifthumbsup.gif
