Flood Exausts

Featured Replies

For sure if you live in the bush and go through 1mtr high water

they are left over from last years floods and YES they were definitely needed (certainly not fashion)

And may be needed for this years floods unsure.png

All the ones before the floods I suspect were fashion.

good question - I've never owned a pickup and I've wondered the same; some owners have their exhaust extended to the top of the bed yet have made no provision for the air intake (a snorkel or something) - I would have thought preventing water from getting sucked into the air intake was more important but maybe they could afford only to have Somchai weld a pipe onto the exhaust but couldn't stretch to a proper snorkel kit.

Like the OP, I often wonder - where do they guys think they're going? If they try wading through water even up to standard exhaust height, it'll flood the passenger compartment long before the engine stops due to lack of compression or whatever.

Actually it doesn't. I had a few runs during the flooding and wish I had an extension ( having to keep the revs high was a pain). Most airfilters are on the front wing alot higher than the exhaust. I only had one panic when a big truck threw up a bow wave that went over the bonnet :)

Or preparation from the monks advice...

Have a look at my creative flood conversions thread from last year at some of the contraptions made to allow the truck to breathe and exhaust, many made various snorkels out of PVC pipe and such and it worked pretty well for many..

Actually the extended exhaust makes perfect sense. I fail to see how a full conversion is a temporary measure or indeed value for money for most users.

Pick-up exhausts are higher than say a PJS, Tuna or MU7 and yet when you're stuck behind someone dithering at a deep section it's handy not having to concentrate on the revs and gives you a lot more confidence in 30cm to 60cm of water.

I wouldn't and didn't keep mine on after as the fuel consumption is affected.
