So I went to Nonthaburi Immigration today, with my wife, as I want to get an IDP and need a proof of address letter. I had filled out all the appropraite paperwork etc.

Anyway we were greeted by the guy who we saw last week when I went to get a Re-Entry Permit. My wife explained what was wanted, he then said that they don't issue that letter anymore ... the boss even came and spoke to us and said that's it's not just Nonthaburi that have stopped doing this as instructions had come down 'from above'. Apparently the reason for this is that someone used the letter for a financial matter and it caused a problem ... so immigration have stopped issuing them.

Anyone else had a probled with this ... looks like I had better progress my Yellow Book application.

It is not true. They still give residency letters of course or no one could buy motorcycles or cars or get drivers licenses etc.

People have to stop confusing the Immigration Department when they want a simple residency letter. They try to tell stories that just confuses them even if it is the reason why they want one but just simply say you want a residency letter to buy or sell a motorcycle as all these letters are the same when said and done.

They are NOT going to stop foreigners from getting drivers licenses and buying selling vehicles just because one person did something wrong with one.

Hi, I have only been here a few months and I wanted my thai drivers and riders license and had to get a residencey letter/approval. I did all the paperwork with the help of my wife and then had it all approved in the local office(Surat Thani). They just allached a signed and stamped notice to my passport with my wifes house address as my thai residence, it only took a couple of hours.

Some Immigration offices have stopped issuing these letters for some time now....mine for one (Kanchanaburi). They advised me to go to my local Amphur and even gave me a draft of an old one (from when they used to issue them) so that the Amphur could see what was required. By the way, this was when I was renewing my 5 year driving licence.

Want to hear something funny about getting your Yellow Book?

Some amphurs like the one in Chiang Mai that I went to today want you to go to

immigration & get a proof of residence to get your yellow book

I of course have had these before but I went & bought them at the US Consulate at $50 a pop because I don't like going to Immigration anymore than I absolutely have to.

Anyway while trying to get a Yellow book today in Chiang Mai I was told I need to go get one from Immigration

I mentioned I had gotten them at my Consulate before to buy trucks bikes etc.

But they said no, not this time & they want one from immigration

So hopefully you will not be told the same as you would be in a catch 22

Hard to understand things here sometimes but I just go with the flow.

decided I will stick with purchasing residence certificates when I need them in the future to sell

these vehicles
