My wife (Thai) and I were married in the U.K. and are now living in Thailand.I would like the wife to take my surname as it will be easier for her to get my pensions from the U.K. after my death.Do I have to go to Bangkok or can this be done in my local area.Thanks.

My wife changed her surname to mine at her amphur, the district office for her area. Took along all her own documents plus Thai translation of our marriage certificate and I went with her with my passport.

Thanks for the Quick reply.I"ve been told to get the translation stamped by by British Embassy and then the relevant Thai Ministry, then take it to my local office.

I can see the point in changing names, there is nothing to gain in Thailand, and as you got married in the UK, there should be no problem with proving she is your wife.

she will be entitled to a state pension based on your contributions, and for any private pension you have, get her shown on them now.
