Retirement Visa Renewal

Featured Replies

I was issued with a retirement visa by Bangkok immigration in 2004 and renewed it there in 2005. As I am now living in Pattaya, can I renew my visa at Pattaya immigration, or do I have to go to Bangkok, where presumably they have my file?

Any info woud be appreciated. Thank you

You should be able to change to Pattaya if you want.

Just a thought. I received my retirement visa ( Thai support ) in Pattaya, and then moved to Korat ,as the Korat immigration Office was not up and running fully I went to Bangkok to re-new my 1 year extension thinking I would just do what ive done for the past 4 years in Pattaya, when we sat at the Immigration officers desk in Bangkok , with all the necessary documents ( 400,000 Baht in a Thai bank, photo copy's Etc ) the officer said as I had originaly got my support visa from Pattaya , and now I was applying in Bangkok I would need to start the process all over again ( supply photos , and a visit by immigration officers to our house ..? ) the officer then took pages full of all our personal details, and as I had not taken any photo's with me this time , thinking they would only be required on a new first application, the officer said we had to go back to Korat and get some photos !!, so off we went back home , the next day we returned with the required photos, and the officer gave me a 90 day return to immigration stamp in my pass port, the point I am trying to make is that if you move from one province to another and then apply for an extension , you may be required as we were to start the process all over again as with your first application.

Thanks for that - exactly the problem I was anticipating, even though many farangs have told me, no problem and that I can renew in a day in Pattaya. I guess I'll go down to Pattaya immigration and check it out, and if I have to start all over again, then maybe it will be easier to go to Bangkok and do it.

An extension on the basis of retirement is the same process each year and is issued on the spot so there is no real need for a file to refer to. You either meet the requirements or you don't.

Sounds clear enough. Thanks very much.

When you moved to Pattaya I hope you informed Immigration of your new address.

This is most important and will facilitate you extension for another year.
