"The protesters in Chiang Mai waved placards reading: "We want to condemn the US for its support in insulting our Prophet" and demanded that the filmmaker be punished. The also submitted a petition to Kenney via an embassy representative."

As far as I know and understand the US Goevernment and the majority of the population do not and / or did not SUPPORT it. When are these people going to learn. It is only a few that feel that way.

"When are these people going to learn."

Isn't that the revivalist motto of the League of White Man's Burdenists?

Possibly "these people" will learn it when Americans stop blaming all Muslims for the actions of the tiny minority of wing-nuts.

The US ambassador said she is unworried

Somehow, I doubt she said she was "unworried".

She said "We don't have much concern ..., which is why she is the "Diplomat" and I am not.

I think most Americans could care less about the muslims. Except when they have to go through airport security or have to watch the idiots burning the flag on the 11 o'clock news before the weather report.

I do not recall ever reading that Muhammad encouraged his followers to punish people for insulting his person. This business of getting upset about "insulting the person who said something" is a digression from what the person said, and merely dilutes the effectiveness of Muhammad's teachings; which this protest ignores in place of childlike ignorance.

I do not think Muhammad ever poked someone in the snout because they insulted him, and I am sure he got his fair share of insults and was aware of those insults. The fact that Muhammad persisted in his views, insults aside, tells me that he was more interested in getting across his views than being distracted with petty issues such as being offended.

Protesting about someone being insulted has nothing to do with the reason one is a Muslim, and I believe there is no scripture in the Koran that supports such a protest. If there is anything remotely similar, then I would place this under the category of forgiveness in order to keep the Five Pillars of Faith intact.

This is a matter of misplaced pride, and I also believe that this is not condoned.

These are not Muslims protesting; they are stupid, immature little children who have forgotten their teachings and are taking matters into their own hands.

Your absolutely correct. Mohammad was not about defending his pious standing. He was about spreading a message of love for God, and fellow humanity and really nothing more. I am not a Muslim but do respect the belief's of Muslims. I am not a Christians but respect the beliefs of Christians. Do I agree with Bible or the Koran? Not really. Having respect for another's beliefs whether one believe's in that belief or not is a key factor in maintaining a peaceful world.

There are 2 million Buddhists and 11 million Muslims in Thailand.

You forgot one. There are 75 million humans in Thailand. That is more important than the rest and, in my opinion, the better focus to answer the correct question, "What is best for human kind?".

My point being: Religion (the great curse on man) is threatening human kind's very existence.

Yeah! I am tempted to gloat over this, but I do not believe this is entirely true towards all humans who claim Islam as their faith. People only need an excuse or reason to do stupid things, and religion is only one of them.
