Need to replace my old modem and I'm only slightly computer literate. With so many choices what should I look for? I plan to try to hook it up to my Apple Time Machine, which is a wifi base, to use as a auto back-up external hard drive via wifi and for all my wifi needs in the house (2 Macbooks, 2 iPhones and 1 iPad) Supposably this will give me a strong (stronger?) wifi signal than a regular wifi modem but thought a wifi modem might be good to have as a back-up wifi option. Anybody have an experience with the Apple Time Machine? The internet come and goes in the house and my old modem has discolored so I figure it is just burning out with time but maybe it's something else, appreciate all thoughts and suggestions.

Have a look at Computer Plaza for wireless Modems, also use Google to read up on specs: signal strength, ease of use etc. There are so many choices although not all models found online are available here.

I recently bought a Zyxel 4 port wifi modem which has a very strong signal - can reach upstairs, and it also stays connected to my TV via LAN cable. Cost ~ 1200 Bt.

IT Now is upstairs in Computer Plaza (also have a shop in ICON) and their tech speaks good English. Nice people, they're happy to discuss options and demonstrate equipment. Best to visit on weekdays as they get very busy with students in afternoon and weekends.

Could you explain in a little more detail what you mean about the documentation and requirements concerning the Zyxel. I went to IT Now in Computer Plaza and I did not see any modems but that's a moot point as I did'nt see any employees either.

Cisco Systems. 3 year warranty and free support. Got mine at Good Speed? Panthip Plaza a year ago. Went by the other day and the guy tweaked the settings and loaded all the newest software. Works better than ever.

Zyxel are good value for money but the documentation is so awful I'd stay away unless your requirements are really, really simple.

Full documentation is on the CD. The paper quick-start guide is indeed awful!
