Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Minister SORA-AT KLINPRATOOM (สรอรรถ กลิ่นประทุม) said that he will discuss with concerned units over the measures to prevent Thai youngsters from using the internet cafes as a gathering place. The meeting will also discuss ways to eradicate obscene pictures and messages from certain websites.

According to the officials’ investigation, Thai youths have used internet cafes as a place to explore pornographic websites. Mr. SORA-AT said that he will discuss this matter with the Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr. NEWIN CHIDCHOB (เนวิน ชิดชอบ).

Referring to the suppression of obscene websites and media programs, he has assigned them to observe the products being delivered by mails. He has also assigned Thailand Post to tighten up its inspection.

The ICT Minister is planning to issue a regulation to administer the internet cafes. He has notified that the law also prohibits children who are under 18 years old to use the internet cafes' services after 22:00 hours.

A large group of Thai youth held at a meeting yesterday at the Not-So-Quick Internet Cafe in Bangkok to discuss their concern that too much crap was being decided about controlling them by the Cabinet. Their meeting also discussed ways to eradicate obscene decisions being considered about Thai youth from certain Cabinet members.

According to their research, Cabinet members have been using governmental offices to explore what further possible control measures could be implemented on the youth. Nong Somdet said that he will discuss the matter with the kid living down the road from him, Nong Sombat.

He noted that while no law existed to enforce Cabinet members to use common sense in their dealings with the youth, Nong Somdet urged them to do so.

Strict ICT measures to curb online games and porno websites

BANGKOK: -- Thailand's Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) on Tuesday vowed to take strict measures against operators of online games shops and pornographic websites in response to complaints that many computer game shops nationwide violate the law by allowing teenagers under 18 years old to play games later than 10pm.

According to ICT Minister Sora-at Klinpratoom, some shops quietly allow their premises to be used as hideaways for using alcohol, drugs or indulging in sexual activities after normal business hours -- behind closed doors on upper floors or in spaces behind the public business area.

Mr. Sora-at said that shop operators found guilty will face severe penalties.

He said that Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra had assigned Minister Attached to Prime Minister Office Newin Chidchob to direct a crackdown on those shops and the ICT ministry to look into the sites accessed by young people, especially pornographic websites.

The public can dial the hotline 1111 to inform of illegal operations by computer shops.

In addition to tight controls on pornographic websites, the ICT ministry plans to curb the posting of porno materials via postal services, he said.

Those who require mailings using postal boxes must be real persons and not merely using postal drops as a blind to hide their true names and addresses.

Closed-circuit TV will be installed at post box sites to record images of possible senders and receivers of porno materials. Recorded images can be used as evidence against those involved in this illegal business.

with apologies, I posted the same above in another thread 75 minutes earlier:

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?s=...ndpost&p=629388

With several different "youth control" threads, wasn't sure which one it belonged in best.

I feel sorry for the youth of Thailand... everybody's telling them what they can and can not do... and who to turn in.

Since 99% of the customers of internet cafes are "youths"

I don't see how you can stop them gathering..............?

Unless they shut the cafes? :o

There goes the plan for hi tech education on the net.

Another case of a politician with "foot in mouth disease". :D

I thought the Government had blocked all the "bad" sites. Seems they can't do enough to censor the net so they will now take out the cafe's. how much longer until they just shut the whole dam# thing down. The controls they want to implement are getting as bad as a certain communist neighbor.

Do any Aussies remember Rev Fred Nile and his Festival of Light?

Kun Sora-at seems to be channelling Rev Fred.

(It was whispered that the Rev Nile had a porno collection the envy of many in the industry. :o )

I am sure that there were/are similar characters in many countries. Why and how do they get into positions of power?
