While getting my next extension how long is the validity of my passport allowed ?

Next year I need to get my extension in July , my passport is valid till may the next year(2014) , I wondered and can't find the answer I seek .

I need to know because I would like to wait until October(2013) to renew my passport , The Netherlands' foreign affairs has decided to give

the validity of its passport holders 10 years instead of the current 5 , nice , but isn't available till October(2013) next year , so wonder a bit early for it.

Need I go and renew my passport before my extension in 2013 or can I do it after approval of extension, does immigration allow ? I'm not sure because the valid until the ...date will be after my current time on my passport ...and my guess is it doesn't.

Answers very much appreciated , again .

If you go in July 2013 with a passport valid till May 2014, you get an initial extension of stay till May 2014. You then have to go back to immigation when you have the new passport to transfer the details, at the same time immigration gives you your extension till July 2014 for free.

You will be stamped until the expiration date of current passport and then when you have the new passport get a new stamp for the remainder of the one year extension. But remember many countries do not allow entry with less than six months remaining on passport validity.

Wow new surprising information , this is what I was seeking for , thanks Mario and Lopburi for quick responses .

Lopburi what do you mean with your last statement ? Only when you leave the country for another right , not while on extension and remaining

in the same country you reside yes ?

Hope you don't mind me hi-jacking this thread, but it is related in a way!

My Brit passport expires May 2013. My retirement extension renewal date is early January 2013. When this happened previously, Phibun simply granted extension until May, then added the extra time and transferred details when I took in the old and the new passports - no other documentation: TM 7, finances, embassy letters etc., required.

However, the old guard at Phibun has changed and the new regime, although nice, seems to go exactly by the book. My question is - does "going by the book" mean that I have to submit all the same information as in January, or aren't they required in the rules and regulations?

If any doubt, then maybe it will be better to renew my passport early.

Thanks,

Elwood

But yes it would be much better to renew your passport earlier as it is useless for most travel with less than six month validity and a Brit passport gets (I believe) up to nine months added validity by renewing early (you lose nothing so a win-win situation).

Lopburi, and Mario - thanks for your usual prompt and straightforward replies.
