October 2, 201213 yr So the places that are suggested and I am considering are: Fantasy Show Full Day Cruise on Phangna Bay Big Buddha Kata View Point Cape Promthep Sunset Desalination plant at karon The view point by knife point KarenBravo, yes I meant speed boat or jet-skis (But I am kind of not willing to do it because of the monsoon according to Sharp) I will certainly avoid tuk tuks all around Thailand, noob7 and no zoos as well. I was also thinking about going to an acquarium but I think we will go to Siam Ocean World. Also no black licensed illegal taxi like service cars. WHAT DO WE USE FOR TRANSPORT? We are going as three bachelor guys NamKangMan. "WHAT DO WE USE FOR TRANSPORT?" - The best transport on the island is your feet. :) Safe, (well - you will roll your ankle and stub your toe and have to walk through mud and storm water) but no scam/extortion/assault/rip off involved. Yes, I understand you can't explore many of the tourist activities here by foot, such is your impinged freedom due to the lack of proper and affordable transport here. Welcome to Mafialand, ahhh, I mean, Thailand. "We are going as three bachelor guys." - Well, in that case, you best go and see what most tourists come here for, Bangla Road. Do not run a bar tab - pay for your drinks as you go. Keep your wallet and phones secure. Oh, when you walk out of the exit door at the airport, do not listen to anyone, and I mean ANYONE. Turn to your right, walk 50 metres and get one of the metered taxis. They will not use the meter and you will pay a lot more than anywhere else in Thailand for the same length journey, but there is nothing you can do. There are minivans from the airport for cheaper, but they stop and try to sell you accommodation/tours/tickets etc when all you want to do is go to your hotel - I wouldn't bother.

How do you wanna know, that they are located somewhere, where they can find a pavement? A pavement, I mean, that is still available for walking and not occupied by the street vendors? You should really know better. and minimum give the information, not to turn the back to the danger of the roads. Face you enemy! Every day, I see a lot of this western 'MMA' specialists, running on the left side of the road, with no sidewalk and lot of traffic very, very (very) close to 'em! Sometimes, it's only a mirror, but sometimes it's a motorcycles!

October 2, 201213 yr Shooting range fun if you don't mind paying 1000 bht for 10 rounds, don't use Tuk Tuks to get there!! You should be able to finish off at least one tuk tuk driver with ten rounds. Surely that's worth 1,000 on its own?

The winner gets a Tuk Tuk! Eh, do they check passports?
October 4, 201213 yr Author Ey thanks everyone. I have new questions How does one get from Phuket to Koh Phi Phi Don How does one get from Phuket to Koh Samui We'd like to hear some cheap options.
October 5, 201213 yr Ey thanks everyone. I have new questions How does one get from Phuket to Koh Phi Phi Don How does one get from Phuket to Koh Samui We'd like to hear some cheap options. Cheap options .... Phi Phi - any tour desk can supply a minibus from hotel to ferry port, and back. Be sure to ask for the regular ferry package (leaves 08.00 each day). The desk will always try to sell the more expensive speed boat tour. Samui - flying is quickest, but cheapest is taking the regular bus that leaves from Phuket town bus station each day and the bus goes on the ferry over to Samui. Very cheap, only a few hundred baht.
October 5, 201213 yr Can't recommend much, but can tell you some things, you better omit: Avoid TukTuk or Jet Ski Scams and giving a hand to a tailor tout. Don't argue with these guy's! Don't visit the Zoo (highly overpriced for Farangs) No Tuk Tuks, Better no Speedboat daytrip to PhiPhi (there are real ferries, overnight is not so bad) Don't use TukTuks Don't start bargain with the "I have special price for you" vendors. There will be one, 1/3 cheaper, around the corner. Oh, not to forget: Don't use Tuk Tuks! btw: The Aquarium is nice! But: Don't use Tuk Tuks Did you mention not to use the tuk-tuks? Not sure, but thanks for the reminder: Don't use Tuk Tuks, And don't start arguing with this thugs, eh, the drivers. Not even the CCTV is working, for evidence against 'em! You been emphasizing DONT USE TUK TUKs......several times. Why not you share your bad experience???????? Rather than keep on repeating!!!!!!!!!!

You been emphasizing DONT USE TUK TUKs......several times. Why not you share your bad experience???????? Rather than keep on repeating!!!!!!!!!! Bad experience? Na, never happened to me. Because I avoid, to use 'em! Last time, I used one from Patong, it was 200 Baht, almost down to Chalong. You know, how long that's ago? Probably less than half of 'em on the road, every one could do a couple of rides, a day, so enough income for everyone! All Tuk Tuks still had entrances from the back, and big yellow license plates, that time. Not the funny one, looking like paint over normal white plates with blue (for up to 11 people) letters/numbers. Also I avoid to answer/react on "Tuk Tuk, boss?", calls, don't even move my head, if someone honks close by. So bad experience is that of others, that you can see, passing by, that you can read about, in the news. "TukTuk driver punched Tourist in the face" "Group of Tuk Tuk drivers attacked tourist, send him to hospital", "Tuk Tuk driver stabbed tourist" Things like that. And almost every time, in this cases, no CCTV evidence available, against Tuk Tuk drivers. But the other way round, the CCTV's are working fine, in Patong! Don't you think, that this problems would go away, as soon tourist would realize, that only 'no ride' with a Tuk Tuk is helpfull, to get rid of this problems? But, in case, I missed it: Don't use Tuk Tuks in tourist areas in Phuket! Edited October 5, 201213 yr by noob7

DONT USE TUK TUKS! Edited October 6, 201213 yr by noob7
October 6, 201213 yr Man o man guys, enough with the anti tuk tuk rants. They are a necessary evil, as the other side of the coin is these guys renting motorbikes. Which is worse? Motorbike death a day here, those couple of guys that wiped out in front of the Hilton a couple weeks ago, fine example. OP, use the dam_n tuk-tuks but clearly agree on the price before going anywhere. As far as what to do(?), follow GOM's lead and pull up a chair on the beach and sip cold beer.

Motorbike death a day here, those couple of guys that wiped out in front of the Hilton a couple weeks ago, fine example. Not really an example, I think: Someone, renting a 400cc 'Scooter', is not going with a Tuk Tuk anyway! The reason for renting such thing, is 'I wanna have fun', not 'I need to go from A to B' And to miss this curve so badly, that isn't a motorcycles renting problem, too. Me think, it was more the Patong election, that caused this problem, that night! R.i.P

Of the two I recommend the OP go the tuk tuk route. Splitting the fare between three should be somewhat reasonable, and although we all agree the tuk tuk guys aren't the most polished citizens, chances are slimmer of the OP ending up in the hospital. Cheers, GOM Edited October 6, 201213 yr by grumpyoldman

Cheers, GOM Using TukTuk means, they never get changes to proper vehicles! That's why I don't say "Do not use black Taxis" And for sightseeing, anyway a day rented 'Black' is much nicer, as a 'Red/Yellow'. In special, if it is a recommendation 'guy'i, from the Hotel, Guesthouse, lunch place somewhere. Many of them don't even try to stop at souvenir places, but almost every Tuk Tuk will do so.
October 6, 201213 yr Author I was more inclined towards using taxis. Which colored taxis should we use then? Which ones use the meter?
October 6, 201213 yr I was more inclined towards using taxis. Which colored taxis should we use then? Which ones use the meter? You will be very lucky to find a meter taxi, about the only place is when leaving the airport. never in the tourist areas. The 'private' taxis don't have any sort of livery colour, just a regular car.
October 6, 201213 yr I was more inclined towards using taxis. Which colored taxis should we use then? Which ones use the meter? Meter taxis are using meter only from the airport. That's legal, but you won't find one in the Tuk Tuk controlled areas on the west coast! Only drop offs, or pre booked by telephone. But you can try this : google phuket-taxi-meter, and try to find out, if they would do. The 'black' taxi's is a term for private cars, pretending to be taxis, but having normal (white with black numbers) plates. The other's, that pretending to be a taxi, are the red/yellow cans (TukTuk) But have 'Taxi' plates, yellow with black numbers Also the 'Limosine' service Taxis (green plate) are legalized, to pretend to be taxis My suggestion, if needed : meter taxi if available or 'black' taxi (privat car) Oh, btw. US Navy is in Phuket, this days: "Briefings to the US sailors are certain to have included warnings about exhorbitant prices, rip-offs and scams. The advice is always to avoid hiring jet-skis, and to walk if possible to avoid tuk-tuks and taxis." Edited October 6, 201213 yr by noob7
