Hi,

Taken quite some time to get there - but now have 800k aging.

Can anyone confirm that the 30 day - 90 day - 12 Month O Visa for purpose of retirement route is still available at Chiang Mai immigration?

Rgds to all.

Yes, it is still available in CM. One of the few provincial offices that does it. Others have to travel to Bangkok to convert a visa-exempt tourist entry into an O visa.

They don't seem to be uniform in their policy about doing it all in one visit. Normally, individuals get the 90 day O visa and are told to return during the last 30 days of the life of that visa to execute a 12 month retirement extension. However, I know some people who get the 12-month retirement extension at the same time they get the O visa (effectively getting a 15 month permission to remain) all in one visit -- by using a visa agent.

What is the advantage of getting the Retirement Visa in your country, validity of visa being 12 months with multiple entries over 12 Month O Visa in CM?

In CM you don't get a visa, but an extension of stay. Allowing you to continue to stay.

A multiple non-O visa allows you to travel to Thailand unlimited times during the time it is valid, but each time you enter you can only stay for up to 90 days. Then yu have to elave and can re-enter again (as long as the visa is still valid). By leaving and re-entering just before the visa expires you can get 15 months out of it.
