Australian, 93, Faces Sexual Assault Charges In Thailand

It doesn't matter to the child if the paedophile assailant is 33, 63, or 93.......the child is just as damaged and traumatised.

This guy knew what he was doing, age is no barrier to justice. Also well done to the Thai and Mynamar authorities for pursuing him and bringing him to justice, they need to send out a message loud and clear........the time of predatory paedophiles flying into South East Asia unencumbered is over. The law is waiting for you.

Age is no barrier to being a scumbag, this guy is a 93 year old paedophile scumbag, jail him for the rest of his days. End of.

Yeah just jail him for the rest of his life or hang 'em high based on someone somewhere making an accusation against him. False accusations never occur, such as motivated my money, revenge, extortion, who knows what. We heard a story somewhere that some agency was claiming he did this so we all should chant together "Hang him high! Hang him high! Hang him high!"

All together now

All together now.......the man will have his day in court, what's your point?, what's your point? what's your point?

Typical idiotic response by someone who has most likely no knowledge of the background of the case or even read the thread.

Carry on. coffee1.gif

By the way that goes for each and every one of you that are banging on about the guy being pre-judged.....he will have his day in court. Now someone point me in the direction of the last person extradited under an international arrest warrant to Thailand who wasn't found guilty?

The Sydney Morning Herald had a piece on the case in April 2011.

http://www.smh.com.a...0423-1ds44.html

THE family of a 91-year-old Australian arrested in Thailand on underage sex charges are concerned for his well-being. They say he has been denied access to medicine and proper care while in custody.

Karl Kraus, a former South Australian railway worker, says he was the victim of an extortion attempt by Thai authorities, who levelled bogus charges last June when he was arrested for the alleged rape of four young sisters, the youngest of whom was five.

At the time of the arrest, Thai police said they seized pornographic print and electronic images from Mr Kraus's house in Thailand. They said the arrest was part of a wider inquiry into paedophiles in the area.

In a letter to The Sun-Herald, Mr Kraus, who has lived in the northern city of Chiang Mai for more than a decade, said he was pressured for 200,000 baht ($6200) by a Thai businessman in the weeks before the raid and claims he was extorted during his time in custody when it was made clear the charges would be dropped if he paid 450,000 baht ($14,175) to several parties including Thai officials.

He says he was kept in custody in a medical jail facility for five days but denied access to his medication, which caused him health complications.

Mr Kraus also says that when police searched his home, bed linen, computers and photographs were confiscated, along with his bank passbooks, which were used to drain his accounts.

Central to Mr Kraus's claims of innocence is that he is accused of sexualoffences on December 22, 2009, when he says he was in Australia receiving medical treatment for prostate and bladder cancer.

How very strange that no one has acknowledged your post wherein the link you provided gives much more insight into the arrest than the original article.

Also what about "computers and photographs were confiscated, along with his bank passbooks, which were used to drain his accounts".

I refuse to speculate with comments like - could this be a get rich quick ploy for some corrupt people? (Oops)

How about we wait and see.

I hope he makes it til the next hearing which is not scheduled until June 14 and why such a long wait?

Kinda scary is it not. So someone can accuse you of something like that and we offer no support but pile on the pressure with pure speculation and trolling.

I agree with Dr Robert Sheeeeesh!

Blether, I am surprised at you. Where others have given the man the benefit of doubt, you have found him guilty and pronounced sentence. I read in one Australian newspaper that the date of the charges were exactly the same date as he was being treated in Australia for 2 different types of cancers. As a fellow Scot, and coming from a place where 3 verdicts are possible after a jury trial, including that of Not Proven, I find your comments disturbing somewhat. He may very well be guilty of something, but at his age he must have superhuman powers

Look further into the case, this case has been ongoing for a good while......long enough for the guy to flee the country and to be extradited back. We have people commenting here on dates of court hearings that are in the past, commenting on proceedings that they believe to be current, that happened, in the past.......everyone who has referred to this article.......

http://www.smh.com.au/national/fears-for-man-91-in-thai-child-sex-case-20110423-1ds44.html#ixzz28LGYij51

Should hang their heads in shame for not noticing the article was 18 months old, the date of 14 June referred to was 14 June 2011, and subsequent to the article being published, this guy fled the country.

So now everyone who read that article and based their response upon it hold your hands up, admit your serious error, and walk away from the thread.

Who's left?

Plenty......plenty of people who know that he has fled justice in Thailand, crossed illegally into Mynamar, been arrested under an International Warrant in Mynamar and returned to Thailand. There have been plenty of officials looking at this case, I lay you odds that the Australian government has had a long hard look at it, and no one has found grounds to drop the charges......

No I didn't Tropo......your veering dangerously on the side of stupidity on this one yourself. Tell me your case for the defence? Go ahead......

I did say he will have his day in court.....I also asked when was the last time that someone was extradited to Thailand under an International Warrant and found not guilty......answer there came none.

So now we are into ya boo territory.......ad hominem as some would say, the facts of the case are simple.......accused of multiple paedophilia counts, fled the country, arrested under an international warrant, now facing his day in court.

The so called case for the defence is based upon his claims......he'll get his chance to prove them.

93 yrs old...fleeing and then being swiftly returned to the Thai authorities ...I'd imagine he would have been aided ( and encouraged to presumably forfeit the bt400k bail ! )

I,m guessing that someone doesn't becom a paedophile over-night , so ,either he's been very lucky up till now , or he's been completely set-up as others suggest !

It is dangerous waspish gossip to make such statements as I read from some of the opinionated experts in here. How many of you are legally trained and competent intellectually enough, as well as complete with the facts of the case to jump to such conclusions, let alone mete rough justice?

Let the judicial system take its course before you make fools of yourselves by vomiting such outrageous, unsustainable prejudicial and surprisingly idiotic comments. For example, did it occur to you that the man at the centre of this, in his advanced age may have some mental illness/dementia? Could there be that there is some other possibility that passed you by in your blood-rush rant?

I am no apologist for paedophilia-far from it-but I am an advocate of fairness and innocent until proven otherwise.

Get a grip on your hysterical overreactions please-at least think before you open your mouth!

You embarrass us all with your ignorance.

Sheeeeesh!

Your moral high ground cuts no ice !

For those who believe a 93 year old man couldn't possibly have the physical ability to assault a child http://bicycling.com...cycling-record/

And, those who can't believe a 93 year old can "get it up" - Haven't you heard of Viagera?

Plus this ...http://www.metro.co....e-times-a-night

I don't know whether this man is guilty or not, but I do know that his age doesn't have anything to do with it.

At what age would his age have something to do with it? 110?

Well, if you would quit plagiarizing David Alan Coe and read what the man said, 'his age doesn't have anything to do with it,'

you may understand.

Don`t believe it.

I guess that this poor old man was set up.

An elderly man, probably has life savings and assets, ripe for exploitation.

Exactly what I'm thinking, respect for the olders has been completly lost sad.png

At 93 you would think he would know better either way considering the reputation Thailand has for these things. Guilty or not he would seem to be his own worst enemy. As for respecting your elders , i'm all for it as long as they don't have their dick in children !!

Deport him.

He seems to be guilty. I they found 100+ pictures and the maid saw him sending pictures over the internet.

Deport him? Not until authorities get their money.

"They say that, while Mr Kraus was in custody, it was made clear to him the charges would be dropped if he paid the equivalent of $14,175 to several parties, including Thai officials"

93 years blink.png he would be a pedofile even with a woman of 35-40 years. bah.gif

Yes, and thinking about it, if he lives longer he really is running out of options for non-paedo activity ......

Is it just me or is anyone else amazed by these two posts? Neither of them seem to have a clue as to what a paedophile actually is.

No it's not just you endure.......I'm stunned at some of the lines and arguments that I have seen put forth on this thread, just as I am every time a related thread comes up. On the subject of being stunned I was reading this article in connection with this case and two lines jumped out at me, however I will deal with them after providing the link and pointing out some detail on this case.

From Wiser.org, a general report about paedophile activity in the Chiang Mai area.......

http://fr.wiser.org/...de38500689425bf

If you don't have time to read it all here is a comment in regards to this particular case.......

" Karl Kraus is alleged to have lured girls into his modest rundown bungalow in Doi Saket near Chiang Mai. Just a few houses away, I met the mother of the four girls Karl Kraus is accused of abusing. She denied his claim that she is trying to extort money from him. Instead she breaks down and weeps as she goes into harrowing detail about the ordeal her daughters endured. The youngest girl Kraus is accused of abusing is just seven years old. "

The body of evidence against this man is far wider and deeper than some of you are prepared to believe, you are far too fast to listen to the bleatings of a guilty man, " It wasn't me Guv ", just wait until the contents of the computer are poured out in court.

Okay, here's the next bit I found utterly amazing...............

"There is no specific law about having child pornography in possession," he said. "Thailand should issue the new law about child pornography specifically."

If that is true that is quite ridiculous and unbelievable........that should be on the top of Yingluck's agenda........here's the next line, which you would hope would have been lost in translation, or intent......I can't believe it is literally true.

( Police ) "Col. Apichart has this message to pedophiles thinking of coming to Thailand: "I would welcome them to come here, I'm looking for them and if they think they can escape let's try. I will get them one way or another. I will make sure they get punished."

Surely the police should be sending out a message which is don't come to Thailand, as you will be caught!! Breathtaking stuff......

Regarding this 93 year old's supposed innocence until proven guilty.....he's a little long in the tooth to be an innocent man charged for an offence he hasn't committed....and for him to do a runner particularly at 93 years of age speaks volumes in many minds.

As said previously the likelihood given his behaviour is that he is guilty....and when that is proven i hope he is never released. If only the same could be said for younger perpetrators of sex crimes against children.

No disagreement with you but to clarify .. it is illegal to distribute, buy and produce. In other words you can't buy it, you can't sell it or gift it or show it. There are also separate laws about having it on your computer and/or viewing/ downloading & Sharing. I think the problem stems from the laws that Thailand doesn't distinguish between kiddy porn and adult porn and felt no reason to single out kiddy porn since all porn is illegal but they also appear to have thought they by making it illegal to make or transfer that it would eliminate the need for a possession law. I think there are still laws like this in the US too though not dealing with child porn but rather other items... but again, agree with you that a change is in order.

Here's my last word on this subject......each and every person on this thread that thought they would have a go at me bookmark this and come back to me after the trial......this report is from Destiny Rescue,

http://www.destinyrescue.org/aus/blog/child-sex-offenders-being-brought-to-justice

Here's the line that will put an end to all of these stupid defences..............

“When Thai police first arrested Kraus two years ago on rape charges, they alleged they seized from him more than 100 photographs of naked children, including some of him posing with them. They alleged he emailed some pictures overseas, suggesting he was part of an international paedophilia network.”

In a court room soon photographs of this scumbag posing naked with little girls will be displayed........this little detail may explain why there has been a relative silence on this matter by the Australian authorities, they know he has been caught bang to rights.

What say you apologists now, eh?

Blether

The only argument you need to understand, and the mention of it seems to be upsetting you is that in a civil law abiding society, which most of us are from you CANNOT and must not start calling for someone to be castrated, left in stocks to die in public, hung and calling someone a scumbag pedo when they have not yet been tried and found guilty. If he is found guilty during due legal process then punishment will follow, and all those that want to call for a prolonged painful death for the guy can fill their boots, but until then it is all getting a bit much. Everyone needs to step off the outrage bus and let the legal process follow it's course. The blog site says nothing that adds to the gravity of evidence against Kraus, the 'Mother' isn't exactly going to say anything to a blogger coming into town asking questions. And I agree, Thailand needs to push some laws through as a matter of priority, because even if they have found images on Kraus' computer or in his house, it appears there is no law against that, so it is of no consequence, however disgusting we all find it.

Pedophilia is wrong and must not be tolerated in any society claiming to be civil and modern, but lynch mob mentality is also wrong, and despite this clearly being a very emotive subject there are a few chill pills that need to be taken all round.

A major issue that comes out time and time again in these cases is parental supervision, or lack of it. In our town there is an 11 year old girl who is pregnant and the parents were round at the school verbally abusing her teachers saying it was the teachers fault for not teaching their daughter properly !!!

Laws need changing and tightening, and parents need to start being parents and the law needs to come down heavily on those found guilty of crimes against young children.

It is amazing the unreasonable lengths some posters will go to in order to defend a farang accused of a crime against a local(s) but how quick these same people are to condemn a local (especially if a women) accused of a crime against a farang.

An "International Warrant" between Burma and Thailand. That's a laugh. I don't think there would have been too many hoops to go through - probably one phone call.
