Hi

I am an expat working in Australia, based in Perth and working FIFO (fly in fly out) in Darwin.

My contract is up for renewal after Christmas and ideally I would like to get a FIFO deal where my base is in Thailand rather than in Perth. I have been in Thailand four times this year and I would like to base myself in Thailand with the little lady and do FIFO work from there to Darwin.

I have yet to propose this to my employer in Australia but I have checked flight prices and they are relatively similar whether flying from BKK or Perth to Darwin. However a lot of the FIFO contracts specify that the employee must be based in Australia.

Has anyone on here got any similar experience or have any tips/suggestions as to the best way to negotiate this with and persuade an Australian company to allow a base in Thailand?

If anyone wants to PM me it would be greatly appreciated.
