Pattaya_Fox
Anti-tank Rocket Launcher discovered at Building Site, just outside Pattaya. Police Captain Pragot from Sattahip Police Station was called to a building site in Na-Jomtien sub-district on Thursday morning by a security guard who works at the site which is owned by the View Talay Group who are currently construcing the View Talay Marina Hotel on the site. We understand that the original call was made to the Police at 1a.m., but they finally arrived at the scene at first light. The guard reported the discovery of what he believed to be an anti-tank missile launcher. We joined Police at the scene and inspected the weapon. No missiles were found with the launcher. We consulted a weapons expert and he told us that the weapon is probably of Chinese or Russian origin. and is not one that is currently used by the Thai Army. In this location there are a number of High Rise buildings including eh Ambassador City Hotel. It is also close to a house belonging to Khun Sontaya who is a senior advisor to the Prime Minister. Police have few clues as to why the weapon was found there. It is possible that whoever owned the launcher decided to dump the weapon out of fear of being caught by the authorities or it may have been placed in the undergrowth to be used at a later date. This case now raises serious security concerns locally, even though the weapon was found 10 kms outside of Pattaya. Pattaya City News Thursday 2nd February 2006. Jomtien
Rumor is that some Russian Army tourists thought that they could exchange it for cooked chicken wings, as that was told them in the russian newpapers. Peter
