Public Health Ministry to ban all alcoholic beverages advertisements

The Ministry of Public Health is preparing to issue declarations against advertising of alcoholic beverages around the clock, except only for live broadcasts of international sporting events.

Public Health Minister Phinit Jarusombat (พินิจ จารุสมบัติ) said advertising alcohol beverages will be banned for television, newspaper, radio and other prints, except for live broadcasts of international events like boxing, golf, sailing, and tennis. As for advertisement in the form of labels attached to the product's packaging, the Food and Drug Administration and the Consumer Protection Board will together find a conclusion.

Witthawat Chaipanee (วิทวัส ชัยปราณี), the vice president of the Advertising Association of Thailand, agrees with this policy. He said that the advertising business may experience some decline in income but this would not be significant as it also made money from advertising other products.
