Mario2008
No money in the bank is required. For more info see: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/189375-latest-reports-of-getting-a-visa-in-the-region/ and chose the right link.
Thanyaburi Mac
"Most convenient," if money's no object, would be to fly: http://www.laoairlines.com/ Somewhat cheaper would be to fly to Nakhon Phanom and take the SAVAN VEGAS bus/van service from there to Savannakhet. http://www.savanvegas.com/visarun/ Cheaper still, would be to take a tour bus from Mochit to Mukdahan and scoot across the bridge. Lots of options for travel. Mac
bangkokburning
I did the entire trip.incl my Lao and Thai visa for b8200 - everrything incl.food and beer. I provided a stack of papers and my stat of finance was included, he took a copy. It is said to be 100k but as stated, many have had luck w/o the financials I just would bring it as I would not want to go all the way back to bkk. That would so suck. forgetit
i have just done it in july. didnt not have any financial information nor was i asked to provide one. There is a bus going from Morchit2 to mukdahan. it is route 927-1 on the bus schedule if you take the evening bus at 20.30 or 21.30 it will bring you into muk early in the morning. http://home.transport.co.th/en/bus-schedule/253-time-table-northeastern.html from mukdahan busstation you can take a bus for 50 baht crossing the border. but this bus is going only every hour. i think it was always at 30 minutes past the hour. this will bring you to savannakhet busstation. you can take a tuk-tuk from there.
