Sleep Apnea Machines

Featured Replies

My Doctor here in farangland has diagonised me with sleep apnea.

I went to his overnight sleep clinic and he said i woke up several times and had stopped breathing.

He suggested i buy a sleep apnea machine from him and i noticed he was charging bigger money than others.

I will be back in Pattaya soon, does anyone else here have sleep apnea and was you able to buy a machine in Pattaya or would i have to go to Bangkok.

THAnks for your help.

Yes thanks,I use 2 pillows actually,i may try to get a new matress.

Im not really sure if i really suffer from sleep apnea, thats according to the doctor at the sleep clinic that i went to and slept in his very expensive overnight clinic and he said yes you have it and it will be cured with a machine to sleep with.

I was referred to him by my GP,who i went to because i was feeling very tired during the day and woke up with headaches.

My flatmate told me he could hear a loud snore and choking type sounds when i sleep so i probaly do have it.

When i didnt buy the specialist doctors machine i found out later that i needed a prescription from him to buy elsewhere ,unfortanetly he says he will not as he has them for sale.

So hopefully i can buy in Thailand ,im not sure if i need a doctors presription though.

Has anyone done a overnight sleep clinic in Pattaya? Is there one?

There is a rather large pharmacy along Sukhumvit Road in Pattaya between Pattaya Klaang and Pattaya Nua (Seaside).

They sell beds, sticks, wheelchairs, oxygen sets and probably also your desired eqp.

Don't mess with this, apnea causes tremendous strain on the heart. Try sleeping on your side with your body supported with pillows, give up smoking...Apnea will kill you, get a pressure machine asap, don't fret the cost it's not worth it in the long run!

I'm not joking! wai.gif

Depending on how much time you have prior to returning to Thailand I would suggest that you investigated purchasing one on line from the States and having it shipped to Australia . It only takes about ten days and there is no duty payable. One can also buy masks etc. at approximately half the Australian price. Google to find the companies concerned.

I have a friend here who has the same problem. He spent the night at the hospital with a nurse monitoring his sleep. After his doctor determined he had the problem, his doctor set him up with an appointment with a salesman who sold him a machine. I tried to get one but the rep will not sell unless it is recommended by a doctor over here.

From what I remember, the machine is pricey over here. The same one at Amazon is not as bad as buying one over here. They are here for those who want to pay.

i also spent one expensive overnighter in BKK being monitored. i stopped breathing regularly sometimes for 20 seconds or more at one time - very worrying. I bought a CPAP in UK, imported from USA. Cost about GBP600 inclusive. Persevered for a few weeks but couldnt get on with it. I identied my stress issues and (sounds crass I know) overcame them in time. Also lost about 10kgs down to about 100kgs. Within a year the Apnea went away. Sold CPAP for B20,000 here - a good price in Thailand for both parties. Watching ones weight i personally believe is most important

I've got a CPAP machine for sale here in Bangkok if anyone's interested. Tried it for a month but couldn't get on with it.

Most machines are RESMED and there is a representative in Bangkok, however the machines are far cheaper in the USA, Australia or NZ -

It takes a little while to get used to using them but when you have overcome that problem you do not wish to sleep without..

I can stay under water for more than three minutes, and knew people who managed more than five. What's the problem when the breathing pauses for a few seconds while you sleep?

When the blood is aerated, one breathes. It's a reflex. Sleeping or awake. I knew people who could stay under water for more than five minutes. I smoke, so I managed never more than three. Didn't cause any damage, so how could it harm a person that stops breathing for mere seconds during sleep, the demand on oxygen even lower?
