Pattaya celebrates Chulalongkorn Day

PATTAYA:--On Thursday Morning in the grounds of Banglamung City Hall, Khun Chawarit, the Chief of Banglamung District led an annual parade and ceremony to acknowledge the passing of King Rama V otherwise known as King Chulalongkorn.

King Rama V was born in 1853 and died in 1910 and was known as the Great Beloved King. The King was the monarch who steered Thailand clear of colonization and initiated the Chakri Reformation to put Thailand on the road to modernization.

King Chulalongkorn was appointed king at the age of fifteen after the death of his father King Mongkut in 1868. As part of the modernization program, King Rama V created a Civil Service, initiated Social Reforms, created the Armed Forces and formed an Education System.
