Toilet Training..

Featured Replies

Im a single Dad.. my son is toilet trained as for the number 2's however still working on the number 1's...

He can go when I ask him to but tends to forget while playing or watching TV and still has the common mishaps... he is still only 3.5 yrs old.

Any tips on how to guide him to controlling this?

The Thai way is to let it carry on until it stops. Seen it many times.

Also my wife's approach with our son.

hmmm... TV replies at the best?

seriously.. Im sure TV can be more resourceful than these last 2..

Anyone else got some assistable idea's?

remind him before he sits down to watch tv, lets go make peepee (or whatever cause i dont understand number two and number one... its peepee and kaakaa or whatever, also for your son to say... he has to be able to say or give a sign that he has to pee or poo... using number one and number two will not work since most folks wont understand what he means)...

he is missing because he is concentrating on something else and he just doesnt pay attention, or waits too long to recognize the fact that he needs to go... so a reminder like : 'david' do u have to go pee pee /toilet? or 'john lets go make peepee now and then u can continue to see the program/read the book'

, or have him take a break and guide him to where he usually goes (even if he doesnt do anything, and even if he misses, no need to punish, eventually he will self regulate)...

some kids pee at night for along time after also because they dont wake up, or they wake up but dont want to get out of bed, or wait until the last minute...

its like reminding him to pee before going for a car ride, even a short one. it becomes a habit and helps synchronize himself with himself...

if the bathroom is far away, peeing in the garden always works, when kids are in the middle of playing and dont want to run far to bathroom.

bina

yep, bina has it, you remind him until he is able to recognise the signs himself, just basically every hour take him to the toilet for a wee. My son decided at 2.5years that he wouldn't wear nappies in daytime anymore so we had to go through this as he wasn't able to recognise the signals, by following this routine we've had less than a dozen accidents in the 3 years since including long haul flights.

Another thing to do is to monitor how much he drinks, if he has been chugging the water alot then he will need to empty out alot.

Much along the lines of what Bina said that is how I trained my sons.

For me now pretty much everything is done to a set time of the day, for instance a number 2 (poo/kaakaa) happens every morning at 0630, shame that I do not wake until 0700 though.

Youngest just turned 3, so was just going through this over the last year

We did a lot of the things others have mentioned and also 1 more thing...

The kids love to play games on the iPhone / iPad, lots of educational games, so normally do not mind letting them play

But while we were potty training, if the kids didn't make it to the bathroom, then no games that day...

It actually work pretty good.. It would be very common when I came home coming he would say " Dad, I went pee pee in the toilet today, can I play with the iPhone?"

Or on days where he would have an "accident" his big sis was sure to drop dime

All in all seemed a pretty effective

I gather there are no Thai language resources anyone knows of? We have plenty of material on the subject to read - including tips in this forum - but I'm the only one that will read it. And since I'm at work 5 days in 7 it doesn't help much. Mother in Law hasn't got much useful advice either - her solution to any child problem is to send our boy to live with her. Not happening.

Have a son just turned 4

My wife does a good job has he tells her when he needs to KEE (Isaan Korat language ) for the need to sh*t

Just lucky not like the inlaws that let their son of similar age sh*t alover the place

Son use to be good at night but now wets the bed more frequent then not

Ok he just does like the other boys & hangs his member out during the day (dont we all )

So the wifey tries to get him to go to toilet before bed

Hes a very active lad
