Police receive training in leading motorcades

Training for police assigned to lead official motorcades of cabinet members and other VIPs was held Monday so ensure motorcades do not cause more traffic jams in Bangkok.

Traffic police commissioner Pol Maj Gen Piya Tawichai said the 60 police would be trained in the proper ways of driving motorcycles, balancing, signal hand signs, leading and overtaking other vehicles.

Piya said that deputy city police chief Pol Maj Gen Worasak Nopsittiporn was of the opinion that traffic in Bangkok has worsened partly because motorists did not follow the rules.

The training would ensure that the police leading a motorcade did not take over the routes of other motorists, which could lead to accidents.

This is also in line with HM the King's wishes that the motorcades of the royal family members do not impact the public.

PROTEST

Village headmen to rally in capital next month

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Kamnan and village headmen nationwide will rally in Bangkok next month to demand that their terms end at the age of 60 rather than after five years in office, as is the case at present.

They plan to rally at the Royal Plaza on November 7, said Kunae Yabaedoh, president of Kamnans and village headmen of Satun province.

He said he expected a large gathering, as there are about 250,000 Kamnans and village headmen nationwide.

At present, each kaman and village headman works to a five-year term, replacing the previous rule that allowed each to stay in the position until reaching the age of 60.

Kunae said that they wanted to back to the previous rule, claiming that the present rule did not respond to continuity of work and caused widespread corruption.

They will start leaving their provinces on November 6 and stage the protest on the following days. He said the protesters would not return home until their demands were met.
