Traveling With Thai G/f Stopover In Ams, Does She Need A Visa?

Hi

We are traveling from MAN-BKK one way

I have found a great deal on skyscanner which I kept reading about here 09:20 MAN Manchester KLM KL1074 11:40 AMS Amsterdam 1h 20 Connect in airport 2h 20 14:00 AMS Amsterdam China Airlines CI66 06:45 (+1) BKK Bangkok Suva

£323

Does anyone know

a. Will the bags be transferred?

b. (I assume not given the time available) Will we have to go through imigration?

c. Will she need a visa (for AMS, has a UK one)

Thanks in advance from those who know

You will check your bags in at Manchester and they will be transferred on to bkk.

You will be in transit at Ams so you will not go through immigration so no need for a visa

Your layover time is 2.20 but depending on your arrival/departure terminals you will find this could go pretty quickly so my advice would be to get to close proximity of your departure terminal as Amsterdam airport is pretty big and busy

In theory:

KLM and China Airlines are "SkyTeam" partner airlines.

a) so sure the baggage will be checked through.

b ) UK ist not a Schengen state and you are travelling to another non Schengen country. So will have to stay within the transit area with your GF and not go through immigration (not entering the Netherlands)

c) regarding to b ): no

Hope there will be more replies (from own experience).

If not, call KLM in UK.

Sorry just one other thing, although you mentioned visa for your g/f, you say it is a one way ticket so would assume YOU have some type of visa in place to enter the Kingdom?

No visa required for GF as you are in transit only. As stated, if you are travelling one way, what is your visa status for Thailand?. Most airlines now check you have a valid Thai visa, if you havnt or have no onward ticket from Thailand you will be refused boarding at Manchester.

Thanks all, and yes she has a UK visa and yes I have onward flights from BKK just in case.

With two airlines involved (didn't realise they where in some sort of alliance and wondered if the agent had just bundled the flights together) and a short connection time, and booking through an agent, I was a little concerned if this was truly a transit flight and about the effects of the first flight being delayed and missing the second flight... as such I have found another flight using the same airline which I am more comfortable with.

I would have called KLM in the UK, but given the time differences, they wold no doubt be closed, and I wanted to book asap before the deal (I think its a good deal) was gone

Thanks all for your time.

I brought mine in on a similar route, but into LCY rather than MAN.. It's very easy. You could even nip over and meet her as she steps off the plane and fly in with her. The transfer at AMS is effortless.
