Hello everyone,

So I recently moved to Thailand, Chiang Mai, I have a ED-Visa so am here for a year at least.

I am 26yrs old and was born in the UK, my father is Thai and mother is English. My parents did not register a Thai birth certificate along with my UK one. So now I am looking to do it all myself, but I can ask for their help and any documents. I want a birth certificate, so I can obtain myself a Thai passport and ID card. I gave a call to Royal British embassy in London they said I was eligible.

So I basically know what I need to do, forms to fill in. But anyone here have any extra information? Have done similar or exact same thing before? I couldn't find an exact guide online. Just anything to make this easier, smooth without too many trips to the UK again (or none at all if possible).

Thanks all! I will most like write an article online about this for future reference for others and credit anyone here who helps.

Peace,

Saltwater

As you were born in the UK, only the Thai embassy in the UK can issue you your birth certificate. Look for how to apply on their webiste.

But there is another option, apply through the Thai Foreign Ministry, Consular Department. They will not issue the brith certificate, but authenticate the paperwork and send it to the embassy in Britain who will then issue the birth certificate and you get it back from the Thai Foreign Ministry. (This takes a few months).

There is a branch of the Thai Consular Department in Chiang Mai, you can ask them what docuemnts you need to provide. Maybe a part of the documents can be profvided in the Uk by your parents and the rest you here in Thailand.

If not, you will need to go to the Thai Consuar department in BKK.

I believe this is the office you need to contact:

Legalization Division

Department of Consular Affairs

Chiang Mai Provincial Hall Building

Chotana Road, T.Chang Puek

A. Muang, Chiang Mai 50000

Tel.: 053-112-748, 053-112-749, or 053-112-750

(On the ground floor, next to the passport office).

Hey Mario,

Wow, I guess I know why you are moderating then. Thank you for all that information, very helpful indeed. I will try to process it from both angles then, and approach the Thai Consular Department in Chiang Mai to see what documents I can obtain from them. Will give another call to the Thai Royal Embassy in London during consular hours again with this information thank you.
