I arrived in the Kingdom on August 10 and - tick tock- I needed to make a 90 Day report on or around November 7.

OK, I extended my 90 Day Non Imigration O to an Extension of Stay for Retirement on October 1 (Compliments to Lop and Jing for their excellent advice) and I'm thinking I'm good, just make a 90 Day report on or around November 7.

Today I duly report to Jomtien and make my 90 Day Report- I'm good through January 28, 2013.

However, on the front side of the page my new 90 Day Report was stapled to I say this notice...

My Extension of Stay qualified as a 90 Day Report and I actually did not need to report until December 28!

Not complaining, just sharing my experience that an extension of stay also qualified as a report of residence.

Years ago in BKK on my first extension of stay I was scolded (but not fined) because I had exceeded 90 days from my date of entry with out making an official 90 day report, even though I had reported my residence arounf 60 days after my entry date via a TM 7 extension of stay .

Ah, you go to love the way the rules are fluid here.

Not complaining, just sayin smile.png

Smiles!

Lance

Actually, your first application for an exentsion of stay counts as a 90 day report, but that is only the first! So Jomtiem was right, you didn't had to make your report yet.

Jomtien is ALWAYS right :)

Immigration didn't catch that I didn't need to make a 90 day report, they went ahead and processed me any way. I realized that I made an un necessary report after I returned to my room. Any way, its good that the extension of stay counted as a residence report :)

rolleyes.gif Yes, but it's only your initial application for the retirement that is considered your first 90 day reporting.

You can see it as the start of a 90 day reporting cycle when that initial approval is made.

As for example, I just did my 2nd annual renewal and am now good until October 15, 2013.

However I still need to do another 90 day reporting on 6 November 2012 .... continuing the 90 day cycle started by my initial application back in October 2011.

I specifically asked that question in Chaeng Wattana in October when I did my annual extension renewal.

Their answer was NO....your retirement entension and your 90 day reporting cycle are two seperate things.

Therefore a annual renewal does NOT change your 90 day reporting dates.

Seems silly to me that even though I did my annual renewal on 15 October 2012 I still need to continue my 90 reporting cycle on 6 November 2012. (less than 30 days later)

But that's exactly what they told me to do.

So that's what I'm doing.

It's diffferent rules for different offices. I guess that it gepends on the size fo the office3 and the volume of people that they process. I use Nakhon Sawan and they restart the 90 day report cycle on the day that you apply for your extension. They remove the bottom third of the old TM47 form from your passport and staple a different form with a new 90 day report date into your passport. I asked if this was policy and the lady said it was her boss's policy in order to reduce the number of times that you have to go to immigration. Seems good to me, why go back in 30 days to do a 90 day report when you just reported your adddress when you extended your stay! I guess that some peolpe do care and think about the system, and it's less work for them

This is so right- each office seems to have its own unique operating system :)

I'm just kicking myself for not seeing the notice before and saving a trip to Immigration...

i think the rule is quite simple in that you can not stay in the kingdom more than 90 days without informing immigration of your present address. . you can inform immigration in the following ways , arrival in the country, getting a visa extension. and of course the 90 day report. in fact you can inform immigrationanytime you want as long as you do not exceed 90 days. as it is extra work for them they will tell you to come back later if you are to early

An extension does not count as doing a 90 day report, only your first extension.

Many people made that mistake and as a result got fined for not making the report.

And you do not have the option to inform anytime - you have a specific minus 15 to plus 7 days when doing in person or not less than minus 15 days if doing by mail.

I had a 90 day report date of Nov 5th but I left the country and arrived back on Sept 14th

Does the 90 day reporting clock start when you arrive in the country ?

Yes, leaving the coutnry resets the clock. The day you return to Thailand the clock starts ticking again from day 1.

Yes, this has happened to me at my last two retirement extensions at NS Immigration.

When you renew your retirement visa, the renewal is from the expiry date of the previous one, so that your 90 reporting date will stay the same. However if you leave the country for any reason, your 90 reporting starts from the day you re-entered the country, and got a re-entry stamp date in your passport. It could be possible if you left and re-entered the country a number of times throughout the validity of your retirement visa, that you might never actually have to make a 90 report.
