EGAT President Chai Anan Samutthawanit Resigns

EGAT President Chai_anan Samutthawanit (ชัยอนันต์ สมุทวนิช) has resigned from his position, after indicating that he was uncertain about the future of EGAT.

Yesterday Mr. Chai_anan submitted his resignation letter to Finance Minister Thanong Bidaya (ทนง พิทยะ). The EGAT president said that personally he agreed with the improvement scheme for the state enterprise, and the opening of opportunity for the private sector to hold shares. However he said he would not agree to the scheme if it led to the domination of public utilities by foreign funds.

In the meantime EGAT chief director Kraisee Kannasoot (ไกรสีห์ กรรณสูตร) said that the resignation of Mr. Chai_anan would not affect the company's work. The remaining executives will select a person to temporarily put into the position, before new names are submitted by shareholders.
