6 Month Passport Validity.

Featured Replies

Hey guys, just have a quick question.

Me and my friend are planning to come to Thailand on the 10th of Nov, specifically Phuket, and after purchasing tickets we have realised that his passport runs out a month after we get back. Get back on the 28th of Nov. Now i have seen the law about having to have a valad passport for atleast 6 months before you enter the county, but i heard there is either an exception or something like that. He is a Russian Citizen, both of us are 18. Now do you think he will be able to enter the county or will he get denied?

I should mention we are flying from NZ.

You will be able to enter without a problem. Thailand now requires that you passport is valid for the duration of your stay.

But if you have an indirect flight and have to pass immigraiton in another country, you might have a problem. In that case check with the airline, most times you only are in transfe and it will not be a problem but in some cases it can be.

Are you returning to NZ after Thailand ? you can check this site it is up to date and accurate, it is what airlines use at check in to verify documents. If your mate is returning to NZ his passport should have 1 month validity as a tourist. For Thailand you are find as Mario said.

Singapore Airlines | SQ 282 ( Nz - Singapore )

SilkAir | MI 752 ( Singapore - Phuket )

and yes we are returning to Nz on the 28th.

Actually the requirement for New Zealand entry is one month beyond intended stay so if he is a visitor rather than a resident it could be an issue and needs to be checked.

Passport required. - Passports issued to nationals of Russian Fed. must be valid for at least 1 month beyond the length of intended stay.

Oh, there will be no problem him getting back into Nz, he has residency but not citizenship im pretty sure. I know for a fact that getting back into NZ will be Okay though. But are you guys sure he will be allowed entry to Thailand? Ive called a few places here in NZ and they are sure that he has to have his passport for atleast 6 months.

The 6 month rule changed a little while back (not sure exactly when) but all the airline sites (which the airline will use to check) have now been updated, just needs to be valid for the intended stay.
