When you check your balance it should also give you a validity period. Depending on when you last topped up your phone and how much it could have expired and you would not be able to make anu outgoing calls - even if your balance was over a 1000baht.

Dial *121# send and read the resulting message. This will tell you your balance and validity. You can also dial 1175 and talk to a person. they have very good English speaking assistants and have sorted out any problems I have had over the last 9 years.

It wont let me call that number either. Why's that?

When i dial *121# the message reads:

The balance of ************** is 140.99 B You can only receive incoming calls until 30/11/12

I made outgoing calls on 25/10/12 so i know the outgoing call barring has not been activated. I have an iphone and i'm not sure how to switch that on anyway, if it's possible with iphone.

Your validity has run out. top up 20 Baht and get another month or top up 300 baht and get longer.

Hold on, i put 50 baht on a couple of weeks ago. How will a 20 baht top up now give me another month?

My phone was never like this before. I don't use it often and i can't remember validity running out before.

This is bullsh*t. I've got 140 baht on the phone and can't use it!!

http://www.thaivisa....-plan-validity/

All the service providers have reduced validity terms a bit over the years.

A standard 50 baht top, with AIS/One-2-Call, up yields 5 days extra validity, without any other promotions.

With AOS/One-2-Call, I am pretty sure you can add 30 days validity, for a fee of 30 baht.

There are other ways to extend validity, maybe via a different One-2-Call SIM (the Tesco SIM for example) or via promotions, like Mao Mao.

There is a TrueMove SIM (interSIM) which gives 365 days for a 10 baht top up. Not sure if that's still available.

With DTAC/Happy one can purchase extended validity: 30 days for 2 baht, I think. up to 360 days for 24 baht.

DTAC/Happy also have a infinite SIM/plan, but it requires usage at least once every 1,000 hours ( ~ 43 days): http://www.dtac.co.t...mkongkapan.html

That's the way it works. You add money, but must use it before a certain date. Hit that date and even with balance remaining, you cannot call out.

Try dialing *500*9# . That will cost you 30 baht (or so) and will extend your validity date. They send me an sms when I have a balance but my validity is about to expire. The sms usually includes that 500 number offer.

He wont be able to actually do that until he has added some money - 10/20/30 baht or whatever. This will give him a couple of days during which time he can phone the call centre or do as you say above. The 30 baht is taken but you get 30 baht of free calls to be used within 5 days as well.

*500*9# is a USSD message - you should be able to successfully originate this as it is not a call, and it should extend validity by 30 days while reducing the balance by 30 baht (maybe more with VAT ?). But maybe this is limited to the Mao Mao package?

When my validity ran out I was not able to do this until I had added some baht - happened to me a couple of months ago.

Be interesting to hear from the OP what he does.....

Sounds like your phone needs cleaning. Pop it in the washing machine on a rinse and spin cycle. Seems to work for me.

Seriously I'm with AIS and always been confused about this issue so I just top up with 200 baht which is a better alternative to the above method.

Better than what method? How does topping up 200 baht help? That will just add one month of validity. Do you top up another 200 baht to get more validity?

Topping up with 12 baht at a Boontherm machine does exactly the same thing.

No need to get upset.    There is  simply a glitch and you need to find  the cause.     Can you go to an AIS branch office and talk with them?    Even with  possibly limited English communication  surely you can show by  pantomine that you're  unable to make an outgoing call.     I'm confident they can sort out your problem.

Cheers,

Better than 'popping it the washing machine'.
