Marage Visa / New Passport Questions.

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I think I understand this correctly but I want to just make sure. If anything is wrong with this PLEASE tell me :)

I plan to go to Laos or maybe Cambodia in a week to get a 3 month visa based on marriage. All I need to bring is a copy of my wife's ID card and a copy of our wedding certificate. Nothing else is needed until I want to extend right?

How long will it take for the embassy to make the visa? I know the tourist visa in Laos was the next afternoon.

I only have 4 full pages left in my passport (and I can no longer add pages) so I will need to make a new one.

Once I have the new passport I can just take the old and the new passport to the place where I need to extend? (This is also somewhere in Thailand?)

This should be pretty easy right?

Thanks.

I have heard that Savhanakhet (Laos) might be the best place to go and they might give me a one year multi-entry? Is this correct? Thanks.

Normally they will want original marriage certificate and copy (they keep copy) plus copies of wife ID card and home register (signed and dated to show current relationship is best). It is also good to have a note from wife asking for visa to be issued in case of any question but not normally asked. Cambodia visa issue normally takes 4 days at last report - much better for most people to use Laos. Yes Savannakhet will provide a multi entry if that is what you want (have to leave every 90 days for a new entry) - see below as would be much better to do this in new passport.

A suggestion if you have not thought of it - why not extend your current stay for 60 days (marriage allows to visit wife) at your local immigration office and then apply for new passport - when you get new passport make your run to obtain the non immigrant O visa. No transfer of information required between passports at immigration that way (you exit using both passports) and you have initial visa in your current passport for extension of stays (they always want copies of that).

I have just been doing the 15 day runs and had no idea I could extend. I have filled my passport with Cambodia visa stamps since I was going two times a month. This seem like a much better idea but can you confirm they can extend the 15 day entry to 60 days? I have never heard of them being able to do this. I thought I had to have some sort of visa and not just a stamp.

If they can do this, what will I need to bring? Just the same documents as I would need to take to Laos?

Thank you.

The documents and wife - the extension of stay is to visit wife and will cost 1,900 baht and require a TM.7 form with 4x6cm photo attached.

(2) In the case of a spouse, their marital relationship shall be de

Thanks, I should have been doing this the whole time.

Can I just keep doing this forever or will they only do it once?

Thanks

Only once each entry

If you can meet the requirements to get an extension of stay based upon marriage after getting the 60 extension you could then convert to a non immigrant O visa at immigration (2000 baht).

You will need to show 40K baht of income or 400K baht in the bank to do the conversion. And then when doing 1 year extension you would need to have money in the bank for 60 days.

If you cannot meet the financial requirements I suggest you make a trip to Savannaket and get a multiple entry non-o based upon marriage.
