Add SQ to the list of Asian carriers that have given up on direct non-stops to mainland USA. SQ announced yesterday that both the Newark and LA direct flights would end early next year. High fuel costs and reduced cargo revenue as well as world economic issues making corporations less willing to shell out $10,000 for a r/t seat on the all business class flights are cited as reasons for the cancellation.

There will be many weeping bankers on both sides of the Pacific with this announcement.

Long thin routes were doomed almost from the day the first A340-500 landed at EWR.

Other than SQ, and TG, I'm not sure if there are any other similar routes? SYD-DFW/QF? JNB-ATL/DL?

I flew BKK-JFK on the TG (A340-500) non-stop, close to 17 hours, luckily in business class.

I flown LA to Singapore but the flight always stops for a couple of hours in Tokyo. I thinks its SQ11. I wonder if this is included?

Hope not!

If you didn't change planes, that's Direct, so I would assume so from the title. However, the OP merely says "Direct Non-Stops" which is a different animal.

The longest now goes to SYD-DFW. SQ has always been a premium carrier who refused to lower prices & frankly the ME carriers now serving NYC/California drove them out of town IMO.

For those that didn't know the SQ A340-500 has a unique feature non of us ever want to use, storage space for a corpse.
