My rhetorical question was intended as a partial answer to yours. I'll put it more plainly; first there will be extended celebrations, possibly not unlike the end of WWII. Some time later, the red shirt leaders will realise that nobody else has stolen billions to give them, or at least not the intention to give them, for their mercenary agitation, and they will resume their former non-illustrious careers.

TS's head is in the clouds, he thinks that if he continues to ignore the law of Thailand and pretends that he represents the country in some way (as a criminal on the run) that his convictions will disappear, he simply refuses to comply with the law and the courts and to add insult to injury he is pulling the strings in the Thai government using the riches he corruptly stole from the people to pay his way to power- what other democratic country in the world put up with this crap, I also believe he is in receipt of some of the billions being siphonded off from government projects - like the recently uncovered 16 billion baht in HK, he is destroying this country and by the time people realise what he's done it will be too late - quite literally the single biggest criminal scam in Thailands history

Well you could be rite as of now.

But if they persist in the rice scam scheme it will be the biggest one

RT @tulsathit: TR @news1005fm: Nuttawut: If Panthongtae hadn't known for sure, he wouldn't have talked about the "assassination" plot.

Nattawut should just tell the Reds that at the moment Thaksin doesn't need them, in fact they are only giving him trouble.

Doing business with Thein Sein, yes. Meeting reds and eating food they were going to bring, no.

All these people that "know for sure" but they haven't even talked to the Myanmar police who arrested the arms smuggler.

what do you see happening in the long term if he were to meet his demise?

First of all I hope nothing will happen to Thaksin.

You believe in the long term Thailand cannot survive without Thaksin?

you made a long post and all i did was ask you a simple question about the post you made.

You asked a simple question concerning a small part of my post and I give you a short answer and asked you a simple question in return.

Please answer that simple question including following question:

It would be bad if 1 man could bring a country down/make a country collapse don't you think so?

you didn't answer my question at all!!! but i'll answer yours cos i'm nice like that.

"You believe in the long term Thailand cannot survive without Thaksin?" of course i don't!

"It would be bad if 1 man could bring a country down/make a country collapse don't you think so?" yes it would be bad if one man could do that.

now can you answer me of what you see in the long term please?

What the poster of that "hilarious" quip fails to realize is that this kind of comment is in itself an explanation for Thaksin's rise to power and the Red shirts.

Goh, how one can be mistaken. Here I am, believing k. Thaksin rose to power in a way which had nothing at all to do with red-shirts. I always thought it was because in 1996/1997 he promised to solve Bangkok's traffic problem which indeed happened a few months after he resigned. Thanks to be economical crisis that is, which saw some bankrupted and some not. Let that be a lesson to all, replace the batteries in your crystal ball regularly.

Yes you would be mistaken. The Thai electorate are no strangers to broken promises. If the poor like Thaksin it's because in their eyes (admittedly wrongly so) he is one of them, derogatory stereotypical remarks made by those supporting his opponents only reinforces the feeling. A feeling the reds also feed on. I am sure someone as intelligent as you understood I didn't mean how he first got elected or his political debut but how he has become an almost messianic figure to so many Thais.

I understand, I also dislike and fear. Even if Thaksin goes down the road as Silvio Berlusconi, a few 'worthy' gentlemen in this region, and others, it's a pity that poor misguided masses will probably still be poor misguided masses. Their heroes meanwhile complain of the unfairness of not being allowed to do what they see as their well earned right, to amass more money and let it trickle down a wee bitblink.png

Actually, that is your claim, not mine. But I will make one more claim, as soon as a responsible government stops paying subsidies to uneconomic primary industries, the sooner those trapped in primary industry poverty will move to better paying jobs. There will be pain involved, but with billions of baht not being wasted, there is some hope of transition assistance and improved education. Until somebody bites the bullet, it won't happen.

For some this seems a perfectly acceptable source of information to be able to 'know for sure' blink.png

Without all the money he controls and spends, there would only be a very small Thaksin.

Of course, and without being awarded the GSM frequency he would probably be nowhere.

But It doesn't change the fact that comments like "idiots eating dried fish" is indicative of some of the deeper issues and if anything it reinforces the us against them feeling that elevated Thaksin to cult status.

kind of confusing how you put it tbh, but i get the gist not that i agree with it though, i think it's a far more complicated situation, but we'll leave it at that. (and no i won't report you, i'm not a fan of doing so)

You people are pretty amazing...........

A constant stream of pathetic, school boy comments.

Almost amusing to read but no thought to the consequences for Thailand should he be assassinated ( murdered ).

It would almost certainly tip the country towards more strife and division and other than the folks on here, who in their right mind wants that ???

As for the nutter who wishes to donate to a "hit fund", well, that's just another fruit cake.

Phil - The reason there are so many school yard comments is because this is a school yard story. This story is a twisting of the truth. An ethnic minority man was caught with a load of weapons including RPGs 100'000 rounds of ammunition and a large number of automatic and semi automatic weapons. Now that is not the arsenal to assassinate someone, that is a hefty weapons cache for the armed rebels in the Shan and Karen state.

Its fairly clear (and clever) that this seizure, coinciding with Taksin visit and the right spin make for good press coverage and portray Taksin as the innocent victim of a vile and evil plot to exterminate him. And we all know taksin favorite position - On the front page of as many newspapers as possible. Guess where he'll be tomorrow???

Perhaps the plan was to kill Thaksin by droping the 100.000 rounds on him?

I mean, even a cock-eyed Stormtrooper wouldn't need that amount to hit someone.

Whilst in agreement with JC, I thought there were Forum Rules against misspelling of names ...Thaksin v Taksin

What are you driving at? Taksin is actually how he wants to be known, sadly for him Thaksin is the original spelling of his name. Was yours a serious post or am I missing something?

Better luck next time!

Why is it y'all - a lot of you anyway - are as hot-tempered on this topic as the many "jai-ron" (rawn, I guess for Brits and such...)? It's still old against new money, more or less - it still baffles me that the leftists mostly chose the "New" money - allthough "new" seems a bit more ruthless; might be better at doing the freebee stunts? Whatever: none of them, and Mr. T. the least care about the people!

Changes will only come with the grass-roots better educated and a growing middle-class tiring of handing out tea-money. You all can do your bit by not siding with you're idiot brother-in-law or whoever, stop barking up all the wrong trees and do as you're mother should have taught you: You don't all sound like you passed grade-school but I assume you have, so: Lend the coloured shirt discussions a voice of reason! Ask you're brother-in-law or whoever why politicians no matter color are so filthy rich? I a country where drug-lords, politicians, army and police control most of the country a fair country? Be a voice of reason, and hopefully this way of thought will spread. All you English-teachers have a mission, don't miss the opportunity to maybe make a difference.

And by the way: according to a very reliable source: T. was in Myanmar last week...

Wow - you must have all the contacts with these sources wink.png Do you really think anyone in Thailand cares about the opinions of foreigners? Do you think the majority of Thais really want change when opinion polls show they are ok with corruption? Do you think things are fair and just, with the amount of money and personal contacts you have making no difference, in the Western countries? If you think Thailand is bad try India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Philippines and China. Nepotism, cronyism, elitists, corruption, - certainly not unique to Thailand. Have a look at the actions of Brtish, American and European bankers over the last few years - great examples of moral and ethical behaviour!

You are correct that nothing will really change until the masses are better educated and the middle class starts to act against corruption. But, English teachers as a catalyst cheesy.gif

The president of Myamaar joins the list of governments that welcome Thaksin which in turn legitimises the idea that he is really running the country. Why else would they be prepared to meet a fugitive criminal? This is reprehensible and shows the lack of respect for law and justice that most countries now openly display.

As for assassination. If someone really wanted to assassinate him, they would try in Dubai. Not that hard, the Mossad managed it.

It's the 5th of November isn't it.

Guy Fawkes - the only man ever to enter Parliament with the intent to serve the country.

No. He had no intentions to serve the country and was an inept mercenary working for a group who were trying to bring England back to being a Catholic country.

But, he was probably the only man ever to enter parliament with honest intentions!

Quote:

National Security Council secretary-general Paradorn Pattanathabutr made an about-face yesterday over the alleged plot, which cast doubt on the claim.

Paradorn told reporters in the morning the plot had no grounds but later in the day, he changed his words after he was summoned to a meeting with Deputy Premier Chalerm Yoobamrung at noon.

Also attending the lunch was Metropolitan Police chief Pol Lt Gen Khamronwit Thoopkrajang.

After the lunch, Paradorn said the discovery of war weapons was related to Thaksin's planned visit to Tachilek.

and:

While the NSC chief said the plot had grounds, Defence Minister ACM Sukampol Suwannathat said the reports were groundless.

"You must ask for more information from Panthongtae, as I have no idea," Sukampol replied when asked about the reports.

He said the discovery of war weapons was just a coincidence with Thaksin's planned visit.

"From what I have learned, the two incidents were not related. You should not report that they were related as they were not," Sukampol had said.

Panthongtae 'reports' the 'plot' on Facebook; Chalerm jumps on it without bothering to cross-check; the media then splashes it all over the place. Chalerm then 'changes the mind' of some sceptics using real thinking. Meanwhile the police had somehow 'extracted' a confession from the Karen man caught with war (not assassination) weapons. The Karen man then recants (probably after being allowed to speak to someone other than the police).

What a total farce &, through this thread, there were quite a few gullible posters who actually believed the story. A word of advice to the gullible:

When the source of a story is Thaksin, one of his relatives, Chalerm, the FM, Noppadol or any red shirt leader - put your brain into gear and ask yourself: 'does it pass the BS test?'

I've seen the "BS test" described as follows (hope it's not too blunt to be posted here wai2.gif )

"Here’s a simple way to figure out who’s full of shit and who isn’t. If someone is saying something you don’t understand, and it’s not about quantum theory or special relativity, more likely than not he’s full of shit."

Or maybe a bit more sophisticated:

"Does Your Mission Statement Pass the BS Test?"

Am I the only one surprised there is no mention of k. Abhisit? A year ago when Thailand was drowning (and the MoFA managed to issue a new passport) the young Shinawatra lad reported that k. Abhisit was on a few days holiday and UDD leader Nattawut provided flight details. All (opponents) appalled that k. Abhisit didn't just sit next to his phone to wait for a call to ask his help, or maybe frustrated he didn't help without request and therefor couldn't be charged with obstruction the government busy with a well executed flooding.wink.png
