Hotel on left, Vietnamese food on right! Cool! Thanks sally. If that's the place that is upstairs, I ate there a few years ago with my wife. I remember that it was a chinese/thai family that owned it, and they had the worst Vietnamese food I ever ate. My favorite Viatnamese place is 'Bon Doi' (something with 'Doi' in it, anyway), located north off Huay Kaew, just 100 meters East of the Rincome intersection. Beautiful gardens, and some rooms for rent, too. Oh, and it has very tasty Vietnamese food. Edited February 8, 200620 yr by Ajarn
February 8, 200620 yr That restaurant must be in the running as one of the prettiest in Chiang Mai. However I think the best Vietnamese is in a small, open cafe style shophouse restaurant in one of the little sois joining Chanklan and Pracha Samphan roads. (If I remember correctly, it is in the first soi coming from Si Donchai end of Pracha Samphan and is at the Pracha Samphan end of the soi. Park in the soi.) Their food is better than I have had almost anywhere else.

I think I can beat you on the back-soi obscurity front with this one: From Chang Phuak Gate, going North on Chang Phuak Road, take one of the first sois LEFT, before you get to the traffic lights. Then look for the (Thai only?) sign and turn RIGHT. You will find a really nice, small, cheap vietnamese place there. (Not saying it's better than anything else, but for basic vietnamese a really good diversion). Cheers, Chanchao > If that's the place that is upstairs, Nope. Downstairs. > My favorite Viatnamese place is 'Bon Doi' (something with 'Doi' in it, > anyway), located north off Huay Kaew, just 100 meters East of the Rincome > intersection. Beautiful gardens, and some rooms for rent, too. Ah right. Pricey though, and when I went they sure took a while to deliver the food.. So much so in fact that the missus had to be restrained to not start eating that beautiful garden. (It's been a long time since I was last there though, so will take updates on the price & speed front)
