Rimmer Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 Security Guard Killed in Freak Construction Accident Ban Saray: Security guard killed in freak accident at resort under construction For a second time in its short history, a staff member has been tragically killed in an accident at the AD Condo complex, under construction at the Lake and Resort location in Ban Saray, South of Pattaya. A security guard, Mr. MongKawn Tongmak, who was employed by LKK Security Services, was working the day shift, 7AM till 7PM , at the construction site for a new condo complex, when a team arrived to install Electricity poles to supply power to the new resort. The 48 year old watched and chatted to the team as they used augering equipment to bore drill holes for the poles and installed the poles ready for connection. . The team claim to have expressed some worry as to the level of the water table as the area had been heavily rained on by recent storms over the last few days but continued to install the poles on the site. As the poleswere installed so the team ,moved forward with their equipment, in conveyor belt fashion removing the augering and heavy equipment, to the next allocated site. The scurity guard is said to have taken a quiet break astride his motorcycle, close to a finished pole, as he watched the process. Sadly the newly installed pole was not secure in the ground and collapsed on him, killing him instantly. Despite all efforts, it took the return of the heavy equipment to lift the fallen pole and as medical services arrived at the scene, he was pronounced dead Read more: http://www.pattaya10.../#ixzz2BQhiDFBS --Pattaya 103 FM 2012-11-06
Basil B Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 RIP There is a need for Elf'n'Safety in Thailand, wonder what training the guys putting up the pylons had? presume the only person supervising was the Security Guard.
fakename Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 Hard to believe, even with soft ground, that it would just fall over. Wonder how deep they dug?
Rimmer Posted November 7, 2012 Author Posted November 7, 2012 Hard to believe, even with soft ground, that it would just fall over. Wonder how deep they dug? The poles in the picture are the big High Tension ones, If the ground is sand which it often is they pump water into the hole creating liquefaction at the same time standing on and twisting the pole so that it literally drops into the ground. I have seen poles in very soft sand fall and the contractor re site them to harder ground.
