He eventually left half an hour later and she called the Police who said they would come later...too busy. It's been a week now and still no sign of Police so she's given up and just locks the gate behind her and locks herself in the house.

A friend and his wife were robbed while they were in their bed (thief was in their bedroom cleaning out the desk, their pants pockets, etc.) Thief was carrying a knife. They pretended to be asleep. Called the police the minute they were sure he was out of the house. Took the police about 8 days to show up. Of course no fingerprints were taken or anything like that. Expensive house in a well-known moobaan in Hang Dong. Your friend may wait forever for them to show up...

Unfortunately the Thai police force do not have a schema in preventative crime measures, or attending a situation until a crime has been committed, and it normally has to be a serious crime at that.

I know that they consider burglaries, minor sexual assaults, domestic disturbances, neighborly disputes, minor physical assaults and vehicle thefts as low priority crimes.

Their logic is, that it is up to the general public to adequately protect their property, secure and insure their vehicles and avoid places, such as certain bars and areas where they could place themselves in danger of attacks or robberies.

Do not in anyway compare the Thai police with their counterparts in the West, for example, the Thai police do not have anywhere near the resources at their deposal, nor the financial budgets or the experts in the field on their staff. They are under funded and under resourced.

Complain about them how you like, but that’s the way it is.

Here its every person for themselves ... There is no pro active enforcement here . I am amazed at the lack of crime here based on the protection you get from the police .... If in the USA police operated as they do here it would be complete kaos.... Having been a police officer for too many years learned serveral things you can do to deter being a victim .......

...not to mention real training, mindset, and self discipline. To serve and protect ....... is the goal in the west...... over here the WHO is the question. It is really sad, that when you need and call for the police, you may literally die waiting.

Tell you what Gonzo, in the west, the UK I'm talking about, you can die waiting for the police to respond, they'll only turn up team handed when there's enough of them and if it's a firearm incident won't turn up until firearms unit/s turn up, the police, the majority in the UK don't want to carry firearms.

Now go to Spain. Portugal, Greece, France, Germany ect ect and see how many police are armed......Says something for the police force of the UK

As they say, "When seconds count, the police are only minutes away."

The quickest way to get a policeman is to jump on your motor bike with out a helmet.

Thailand is in no way a nanny state. So don't complain. There are plenty of countries to chose from that are nanny states.

Yet you are in more danger walking down streets where there are nanny state and Police Officers.

Here in Thailand the police put in a lot of their energy in to nabbing people with out helmets. Actually not much energy they just stand there and wait for you to come to them.Maybe these police would not be so shocked and traumatized if they had done some duty in a nanny state.
