Glucometer To Buy?

Featured Replies

Making the move this coming spring, and sooner or later I'll need to start using test strips bought in Thailand. My preference is for a very small blood sample and a fast reading. I love my One Touch Ultra. It offers a teeny sample size, alternate site testing, and a result in 5 seconds. Great memory, too.

I hear Accu-Check is the most available strip...but WHICH Accu-Check strips? All you diabetics out there, jump right in with what you have been able to find locally, cost, and which meters it will work on. Thanks!

We have the J&J One Touch Ultra and the primary reason is the low blood amount required. They have an office in Bangkok and the monitor and strips are sold here. But finding any strips in most drugs stores is hit and miss as very few people use testing yet.

That said we had no problem finding in Chiang Mai. In Bangkok obtained a box of two 25 strips last week from a drug store at Big C Latphao at a cost of 1,100 baht but they had to next day order. Even though they had two meter sets for sale they did not have strips or even know the price. But believe things are changing and testing is starting to become more mainstream.

I'm also using One Touch Ultra, and have no problems getting the strips. Just order from any decent pharmacy and they will order it for you overnight. No pompems.

thanks, all good news there.

I changed to ONE TOUCH ULTRA after moving to Thailand 3 years ago. Absolutely no problem for strips. You might want to check out insulin as well. The ones packaged/produced in Thailand under licence ar much cheaper than imported brands. I can get HUMALOG refills here (Not disposable pens) at a reasonable price but Lantus (for overnight) is very expensive, and I have switched to Humalin M.

There are some pretty good specialists at the major hospitals and the fees are very reasonable but I advise you to get your medication at a pharmacy outside as it is very expensive at the hospital pharmacies.(Especially if, like me you take a range of stuff for cholestral, blood pressure etc., in addition to insulin.) Soemtimes the pharmacists don't stock insulin, but they will be happy to order it for you. I've told you more than you asked for - hope it was of help :o
